No Gitmo detainees: Canada
OTTAWA — The Harper government has rejected a request from the administration of U.S. President Barack Obama to accept a group of Chinese Muslim detainees being held at Guantanamo Bay.
A spokesman for Prime Minister Stephen Harper said Thursday night that Ottawa’s position on the Uighurs remains unchanged: Canada is not willing to accept any Guantanamo detainees as refugees.
“We had a previous request from the Bush administration as well,” said Kory Teneycke. “But given that these detainees have no link with Canada . . . I do not see our policy changing. I don’t see us taking any detainees from Guantanamo.”
The U.S. base is still holding 17 ethnic Uighurs, despite the fact that a U.S. judge last year cleared them of posing any terrorist threat to the United States and ordered them released.
China has demanding their return, claiming that they are terrorists who are seeking an independent Muslim homeland in the northwestern part of the country.

If scum like these were ever admitted as refugees they would become eligible for citizenship after 3 years. No other country in the world has as lax and frankly dangerous to national security citizenship laws as does Canada. Bearing that fact in mind, go out and thank a Liberal today.

Why the hell would he even ask us? They aren’t Canadian. That’s just about the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Why should we take scum like that? Are we the world’s dumping ground?
Send them back to China.
I can hear the NDP begging to take them now.

O says, don’t buy Canadian but then wants us to take in Gitmo scum.
O says no more demands from the USA to countries but then tells Israel what to do.
O says USA the largest muslim country in the world, or is that his dream. Does he hope the change the USA to fulfill that statement.
Can’t wait to see his wife and daughters in a burka.

MaryT, when O says the U.S. is one of the largest Muslim countries in the world, that comment is completely laughable. He obviously isn’t that knowledgeable. They mocked Sarah Palin for much much less.
And he’s the POTUS. Wow. But yeah, it is likely wishful thinking on his part.
I think we should change his name to the Great Appeaser.

The Uighurs are Chinese, therefore a Chinese internal problem. We have enough problems without importing Gitmo detainees to add to our refugee mess. I find it amusing in a macabre way, that the potential martyrs for jihad are always willing to die on the battlefield but not in prison. What’s the difference?

It makes sense now that Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano wanted to concentrate on tightening US security at the Canadian border rather than the Mexican border, since the Obama administration intended on dumping terrorists here.

I guess the “O” is finding out about making promises that he can’t keep
He has made quite a mess for himself. Promised to close Gitmo to satisfy all the appeasers, but no one wants the inmates. His own Congress & Senate voted almost to a person not to accept any on American soil. So why should any one else take them.
I say pack them all in a C130, strap parachutes on them and boot them out at 30,000 feet over their home countries or where they were captured. Better yet do it at night. Let them Allahu Ackbar all the way down. Then the US could report that the prisoners were released.
mid island mike.
