Khadr court order appealed

khadr_thumb1OTTAWA — Federal lawyers are appealing a court ruling that ordered the government to seek Omar Khadr’s return from Guantanamo Bay.

The federal government has filed an appeal of a Federal Court ruling that it seek the return of Khadr, 22, from the U.S. military prison in Cuba.

Judge James O’Reilly ruled in April that the Conservative government’s refusal to demand repatriation of Khadr offends fundamental justice.

The judge ruled that the government must ask the United States “as soon as practicable” to send Khadr home.

Opposition parties have demanded that Khadr be brought home and tried in Canada, if necessary, in light of the court decision.

But Prime Minister Stephen Harper told Fox News this month that Canada won’t be taking any Guantanamo Bay detainees.

Harper told the U.S. network that he is “not offering Canada as a safe haven for anyone that the United States considers to be a terrorist.”

    “as soon as practicable”.

Depends on from whose standpoint.  Never seems about right.

The Federal Court is a low level court and is hardly the final word in the matter.  I get a kick out of some of the looney left statements that the Federal Court is the “highest court in the land”.  Not even close.

Khadr can stay in Gitmo for the rest of his life, as far as I’m concerned. The fact that the three opposition parties are united in demanding Khadr’s return to Canada is a good enough reason to say “No, thanks!!”

The truth be known, the opposition parties don’t give a rat’s behind about Khadr personally.  Even though this little killer is a Canadian citizen on paper, he is in reality (especially his own mind and the mind’s of his family) a foreigner with absolutely zero loyality to Canada, genuine Canadians or the Canadian way of life.   The opposition’s actions are all about votes from the immigtant community by portraying the Conservatives as uncaring nasty anti-immigrant meanie-pants.  Nothing more, nothing less.

I suspect the opposition sees this as an opportunity to try to paint the Conservatives as being uncaring toward immigrants and/or insensitive to their unique needs… like the need to jihad occasionally…
