Climate Bill Set for Vote After Deal Is Reached

Posted by Jack On June - 24 - 2009

pelosi_thumb1WASHINGTON — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has scheduled a vote Friday on a sprawling climate-change bill, signaling the Democratic leadership’s confidence that it can overcome objections from Farm Belt Democrats.

Opponents and supporters of landmark climate legislation are ramping up their public-relations campaigns ahead of the planned vote. The Obama administration is pushing the measure as a job-creator, while critics, including many Republicans, are portraying the bill as an energy tax that could slow the economy.

The legislation, co-sponsored by House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Henry A. Waxman (D., Calif.) and Rep. Edward Markey (D., Mass.), had stalled last week because of opposition from Farm Belt Democrats concerned their states will face heavier costs under the proposed law to curb greenhouse-gas emissions.

Discussions were still continuing Tuesday. Josh Syrjamaki, chief of staff for one of those Democrats, Minnesota Rep. Timothy Walz, said his boss hadn’t yet given his support for the bill because he hadn’t yet seen details of a deal.

Drew Hammill, a spokesman for Ms. Pelosi, said in an email late Monday evening: “There are some issues still under discussion, but we are confident we can resolve them by the time the bill goes to the floor on Friday.”

The bill aims to cap greenhouse-gas emissions at 17% of 2005 levels by 2020 and at roughly 80% by 2050, creating a market for companies to buy and sell the right to emit carbon dioxide and other gases. It also mandates a new renewable electricity standard and establishes new national building codes.

It would mark the first time that either of the two chambers of Congress have voted to impose mandatory reductions in greenhouse-gas emissions — a goal President Barack Obama wants to achieve before a round of international climate talks in December in Copenhagen.

Canada traditionally lagged ten years behind the US in trends, the essential or characteristic customs and conventions of  that country.
    NOW one glaring exception.
Canada turned into a soft socialist country  during the reign of Pierre Trudeau’s Liberals.
PiErre Trudeau , the closet communist.
Now the United States is morphing into the exact same scenario with Obama’s Democrats.
Just like the frog in the cold water pot, Americans are in the early stages of the burner being turned higher, they don’t realize that Obama and his Demcrat leftist cohorts  are turning the US into a  SOCIALIST STATE, thirty years after Trudeau manged it in Canada.
Oh yes, and with the complicity of  THE  SLOBBERING MSM.

The imagined but soon to be ringing of those tax dollars cash registers is music to any government’s ears.  Man-made global warming, what’s that?  Wasn’t working huh?  Okay, let’s call it climate change instead.    Ah…now we stupid taxpayers understand the urgent need to save us from ourselves.  My wallet?  It’s here in my back pocket, take it.

Nothing matters Jack, the politicians are going to stick us with some form of carbon tax no matter what.  It’s just too good an opportunity to screw us in our wallets and  stuff the treasury with money to be spent on any and all government pet projects and little if any money on doing anything positive for the environment.  Those who forget history are condemned to repeat it rings true.  One example, the road tax on every litre under the guise of raising money to repair or build our highways.  The Feds took in upwards of $5 B a year and it all went into general revenues except for about $300M that actually went for highways.  Today Canada’s highway system is a national disaster.   Admittedly the situation has impoved under the CPC but during the Liberal reign the fraud perpetrated on Canadians with the road tax was obscene (and Adscam hadn’t even been uncovered yet).  I have expressed my objections to any shape or form of carbon or environmental tax to my MP more than once.  I wonder how many other Canadians have done so, or will most as usual just shell out the cash and then bitch about it in Tim’s.
