Ontario PCs to crown leader today (7)
Until this morning, the results of the Ontario Progressive Conservative leadership race were guarded under lock and key, hundreds of stuffed ballot boxes protected by a security guard 24-hours-a-day in an undisclosed location.
Today, on the second day of the PC Leadership Convention, the taped-shut boxes will be opened in the Hilton Suites in Markham, where the ballots will be tallied and one of the four leadership candidates will begin preparing the PC Party for the 2011 election.
Transporting theballot boxes is new in this election, said PC Party president Ken Zeise.
“Last time, trying to maintain communication with 107 ridings was difficult,” Mr. Zeise said.

If the provincial Tories play their cards right, unlike the last time, have a good shot at the crown especially with McFibb’s weaken government sinking fast. Certainly wont get the senior’s vote with their total neglect of this growing group.

Cynpase Says:
80% with you on this one. Looks like Hudak’s going to win and his anti-HRC initiatives might not play well in 416-905. Also, McGuinty seems to have a teflon quality – he’s not as hated as he should be. Regardless, someone who can energize the population could easily take the crown from the slow-n-steady Liberals.

Sandy Says:
Jack & Cynapse — I sure hope Hudak wins but either Klees or Elliott could come up the middle in the third round. It all depends on how people ranked their ballots for second and third choice. But, it is getting exciting.
I have also been promised a telephone interview with Hudak, win or lose.
Re the HRC — the opposition has done a good job of muddying the waters. Hudak would NOT get rid of the HRC’s — I repeat NOT — what he would do is get rid of the Tribunals in favour of the courts.
That message has to get out somehow!

I sure hope you’re going to post some material from that interview
Posted on June 27th, 2009 at 1:32 pm
Sandy Says:
Promise — I will post whatever I get from that interview everywhere I can — assuming he wins! And, I am going to ask him to clarify re the HRC issue, although one of his aides already did. But, I want it right from the horse’s mouth – loud and clear.

Really good job, Sandy. While the official website kept falling apart yours didn’t and near the end I suspect everyone was going there.
Take tomorrow off. You’ve earned it.

Sandy, that was blogging at its best. Superb!
BlueHost seems to have made good on their pledge to improve things. They may get a second chance.

Looks like Tim Whodat gets the nod as leader of the Ontario Conservatives.

Thanks guys. It was hectic there for awhile. And, yes, I did worry about Blue Host but only experienced a brief moment of hesitation. Had to close and reboot. But, that might have been me trying to type so fast. LOL
I will take tomorrow off unless — I get that phone call from Hudak. I would imagine I won’t hear from him until Monday. But, whenever, I am looking forward to that.
The people on his team that I have been dealing with are really good, which means good things for the party. They value the blogosphere and the social networking options — the future IMHO.

I worked really hard on it “ya know” for at least 15 minutes.
Maybe I sent the wrong message but it was fun while it lasted.

Actually Jack, I laughed out loud when I saw it. I assume it is an eagle (or I guess it could be an owl or a falcon) — whatever it is, it is exactly the image I have of Hudak behind McGuinty.
So, kudos to the whole team — here at JN, Joanne, Stephen Taylor, Cynapse (for holding his breath for our server Blue Host, Russ Campbell and others. It’s not everyday conservatives can celebrate (even if only fiscal conservatives).
Joanne just left a comment on CoTM that she was having a glass of Niagara wine. So, have a cold one and enjoy. I intend to.
Shutting down now.

“Yup”, so is the Globe. Ontario Tories must be doing something right. CTV has shut their comment area off. Small wonder.
CBC has not but comments are rather sparse.

UV Says:
Lets hope that he doesnt use the ’common sense revolution – part II’ as the main plank in his platform as that could cost him dearly, especially the ‘downloading’ concept as well as closing hospitals. Hopefully he will create his own policies after listening to what Ontarians have to say as to what direction/policies they would like instead of listening to some party hacks who in the past (John Tory gang) misjudged the voting public.

Jack Says:
Apparently Liberal voters are concerned about Section 13 of the Ontario HRC.
“Tough.”
It is gone in Ontario.
I will also say that I like Christine’s idea of a flat tax in this province and I urge Tim to call her in and get her ideas. This is not a stupid thought and it needs more work.
If Tim wins the next election maybe Christine could become his finance minister. Truly, I can hear the scream by the left from here but truth be told “Jim and Chris” are a team and I see no reason to call a foul.
Who better to work for the interests of Ontario and Canada in the years ahead?
Conservatives have worked very hard toward this goal for a decade and it’s time to fire Jack Layton and his crowd.
We should also fire the Star and the Globe while we are at it.

Mac Says:
If only we could fire the Star and the Globe, Jack… but alas!!
Although the fight was occasionally bitter, all four candidates brought decent credentials to the table. I’m a bit disappointed for Hillier but his 1000+ votes prove he wasn’t as much of a fringe candidate as the media tried to portray him to be. I’m also a bit surprised that Klees did as well as he did since his campaign was pretty bland.
Congratulations, Mr. Hudak… Now it’s time to put together a platform for the next election and start kicking butt in the legislature!!

It’s ok Mac. All contenders will have a shadow porfolio and I can hardly wait to find out who does what. It should be interesting.

Bold prediction, Jack. It could happen but I’m thinking Dalton’s ego won’t let it.
If Dalton did talk a long walk in the snow (or off a short pier), there isn’t exactly a line-up of qualified candidates waiting with bated breath. Most of his cabinet are “yes men” and wouldn’t have what it takes to lead the party, let alone the province. Do you know of someone McGuinty is grooming?
Posted on June 27th, 2009 at 9:11 pm
Jack Says:
Actuallt you’re wrong, Mac. All those “party dudes” are walking around holding a very long knife behind their backs. They all want to be boss and Dalton is in the same predicament Chretien found himself in.
“Fun eh?”
Posted on June 27th, 2009 at 9:17 pm
Mac Says:
No kidding? I’ve yet to hear a cabinet minister say anything other than what Dalton wanted him to say and they all fall over themselves to protect him…
I wonder if McGuinty will handle his pending demise as well as Chretien did?
Posted on June 27th, 2009 at 9:20 pm
Jack Says:
It’s a matter of time and it should happen soon. The same thng occurred when Harper took over Reform and the federal Liberals went nuts and slaughtered each other.
There’s no difference as the panic sets in.
“There be dragons in this place!”
Posted on June 27th, 2009 at 9:27 pm
Mac Says:
I wonder what we can do to help encourage provincial Liberal panic? Maybe start recycling some of McGuinty’s many gaffs, policy reversals and outright lies?
