Hanson: Schizophrenic Society
Such a Prudishly Crass Society
I was watching cable television about 5 PM on a Friday night, channel surfing between commercials on the Western station. Sandwiched between regular cinema programming were about several channels with what could legitimately be called light porn motifs. I then surfed through a confessional about phallic enhancement and a couple talking about herbal remedies for impotence.
Once I got out of that channel cluster, and went into the 200s, here and there came up infomercials on everything from how to buy foreclosures with no money down, how to get out credit card debt, how to avoid taxes, and how to default on housing payments without hurting your credit. The talking heads looked just like those hawking natural Viagra a few channels earlier, and indeed were hawking the same instant gratification, sober faces advising radical conduct.
By the time I got back three minutes later to the Western channel, the Maverick episode was extolling the virtues of honesty and keeping one’s word. Television, in other words, is a cesspool. To channel surf through it to find an old Western, one has to take an antiseptic shower afterwards.

Male, retired and the rest is of little interest to anyone. The site keeps me busy and if it helps others to stay abreast of daily events then my time is well spent.

In my case it brought to mind just about everyone on the left half of the divide. Ever since Obama first appeared over the horizon it is almost as if we have been invaded by left leaning pod people as so often happened in 1950s era sci-fi horror films. To be a conservative nowadays is to be one of the last of those struggling remnants of humanity not yet turned into vegetable matter, and every time you think it may be safe to come out from hiding and point out that Obama doesn’t actually have any workable plans for anything, not for the economy, not for Guantanamo, not for foreign policy, none that would actually change the climate, and none for healthcare either, the leftypod vegepeople turn toward you in unison, pointing and gasping “DENIER” or “CONSERVATIVE”. As they lumber towards you like so many slow-witted black and white zombies, you reach for a club or a fact or anything to hold them at bay until their Democrat overlords can be decimated by the conservative resitance over the course of the next two elections, but they keep advancing… Well, its either that or they actually do need a cooler climate just like the one back on whatever planet they call home.

The only difference between now and 50 years ago is that now we’re honest about the dirt that goes on. Talking garbage about flags, eagles and Jesus is no longer enough to pacify the public about dirty dealings.

The MSM aren’t really being honest about it. This is the 21st century and Governor Sanford, though he did not handle the situation as expertly as say Clinton or JFK would have, was separated from his wife. In fact, even though this story is still wasting bandwidth on the cable TV service that I am paying for, I’m still not certain what is so controversial about it at all. John Edwards? Not so much, and news of his affair barely made it through one news cycle. Of course, I’m still having trouble picturing Victor Davis Hanson living amongst “the Californians” without losing it completely.

Watch the Wolfman Movie Says:
Talking about the films, not the characters. I think The Mummy was an excellent remake, and is a classic film and I can watch it over and over. It’s just got enough meat on its bones. The Wolfman has a somewhat interesting plot, which isn’t immediately revealed right away. It’s not a plot where you an go, and then this happened, and then this, and then this. It’s got some twists and revelations that. It’s not, as linear and it didn’t feel as fun. Now, they’re different movies of course, 1 is horror is is adventure. Still they’re both remakes of classic monster movies by universal studios. I think they certainly learned their lesson from Van helsing and this is a much better movie than that. I cant help but compare the 2 movies though. I guess I just kind of wish Wolfman was better, like how I like the Mummy.
