Toronto, the workers’ paradise where nothing works
Toronto at the moment is a shining example of a major city operating along leftwing principles. Nothing works.
It’s a workers’ paradise, paradise in this case being a place where you no longer have to do your job. The services that two million people have paid for aren’t being delivered, because two city unions can’t get what they want and are on strike. The interests of the majority are subverted to the demands of a small, privileged minority. It’s the Family Compact in reverse. The unions, ultra-conservative in their left-wing zeal, resist change at all costs. They want a world that remains forever unchanging, if change requires acceptance of fewer personal privileges. The state, according to the striking city workers, is them. The rest of us are supplicants.
Toronto has ceased functioning. The daycares aren’t open. The community centres are closed. The pools don’t operate. City-run camps are shut. Parks aren’t maintained.

Male, retired and the rest is of little interest to anyone. The site keeps me busy and if it helps others to stay abreast of daily events then my time is well spent.

Who says that the city cannot go bankrupt. It would be the best thing to Toronto (where I live), it could get out from under a large number of contracts that need to be corrected, but cannot be under the current government.

Has anyone noticed that the “blonde bomber” has gone gray? And he doesn’t look well either.
Maybe he should resign. It’s a health issue in my mind as people walk up to him and say ‘Dave, are you sure you feel OK?’ It’s a mental thing and if enough people ask he’s going to begin to wonder as he looks at himself in the mirror.
Pretty soon he’ll convince himself and that will be that.

This can’t be socialism’s fault. Quick… find a Conservative to blame!! It’s gotta be tough to be Mayor Not-So-Goldenhair… betrayed by his biggest supporters…

It’s time for the citizens of Toronto to peacefully take back the city that has been stolen from them. Toronto is not unique here folks, similar situations of union rule over cities is common place. Although at the moment all is quiet on the western front, it sure applies to Winnipeg.

Most cities are in the same situation, btdt.
The unions in BC, especially those in Vancouver, were salivating at the prospect of striking before the Olympics. Unions are happiest when they have the employer (and the taxpayer) over the barrel. As much as the common folks in Toronto aren’t happy, I’m willing to be the union leaders are positively gleeful.
Anyone notice the absolute absence of Jumping Jack Layton in the media? I wonder why Layton isn’t out there pushing the union agenda now?
Gordon Campbell used union greed against them by “creating” a pot of taxpayer money for “signing bonuses” for the unions but extended the dates on the contracts past the Olympics. Most of the unions were pressured by their members to grab their portion of the pot. Only the most militant unions (the teachers and the nurses) held out but eventually they signed on as well. Although I hate the concept of using tax dollars as bait, it certainly worked…
