Remember when Princess Diana died?
Take that, ladle on some Elizabeth Taylor-ish “Cleopatra” spectacle and the staggering scope anticipated for Michael Jackson’s L.A. memorial service comes into focus.
Will Jackson’s televised farewell be tasteful? Could it rival Cecil B. DeMille’s “Ten Commandments” in size and pomp?
It’s anyone’s guess as Jackson’s memorial on Tuesday at L.A.’s Staples Centre draws closer.
Pulled together by Grammy producer Ken Ehrlich, the memorial tribute will be broadcast live on TV networks around the work. Ehrlich told the New York Daily News the event will be low-key, more of a memorial service than a tribute concert.
Jennifer Hudson has been confirmed as a guest entertainer.
Roger Friedman, of The Hollywood Reporter’s site Showbiz 411.com, writes that Lionel Richie will be on the program.
Stevie Wonder, Little Richard, Smokey Robinson and Mariah Carey are among other stars rumoured to be on hand to pay their respects.
Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are also expected to offer eulogies on the King of Pop’s iconic life and career.
Timed to run between 90 minutes and two hours, Jackson’s memorial could become one if not “the” most-viewed events of all time. In fact, the memorial’s worldwide TV audience could rival the hundreds of millions who watched the Apollo 11 moon landing or the 1997 funeral of Princess Diana.

Notes:
What a silly headline. Of course it will. CNN coverage begins at 6:00 am and will go on and on and on.
“Sheesh.”
Jeez, the guy disappears and hides out in the mideast and nobody hears about him for a couple of years and even more, nobody cares. Then the guy croaks and all hell breaks loose. Today the LAPD fire department is going to fly his body to the furneral? How about they just put him in a hearse and use the chopper to go rescue somebody instead.
What utter rubbish!!!!
Time to face the facts – more people care about Michael Jackson than all of our manufactured political “heroes” combined.
The facts are that people are more willing to follow entertainment idols because they can’t or won’t face reality. It is an escape mechanism.
It’s not even clear politcal people have a grip on “reality”, D.C. I’ve read some pretty “out there” stuff on this board, and even moreso on SDA / Rabble / Huffington / WorldNetDaily / etc. The big difference is that entertainment is supposed to be an escape from the everyday trials of life and perhaps that was makes people more enthusiastic – stars represent what we want to be, not what we have to face.
it won’t stop my world, I won’t even hiccup
They don’t really care Cynapse, they’re idiots. They have the mindset of the same people who voted for Obama. Poor judges of character, easily influenced, prone to not thinking for themselves, dreamers, still believe in fairy tales, you know, Pinnocio is a true story, that sort of person.
Nice little spin there. Those GOP supporters profiled in the videos I posted don’t exactly come across as agile thinkers either. Monkey dolls? Obama bucks? What grade did those conservatives stop going to school?
Sounds like this is converging to herd mentality.
“Sounds like this is converging to herd mentality.”
Exactly. If the Democrats can do it so can the Rebublicans. All they need is a leader and they have one. They just haven’t realized it yet.
But they soon will.
