Wafergate Wake up Call

adlerEvery now and then something happens in the NEWS – more specifically in The Coverage of News – that let’s me know why so many of you have abandoned the old ways of paying attention to news…Abandoned watching the late evening news…Abandoned the Newspaper…Every now and then, it becomes so crystal clear why there is as much suspicion of the news business, as there is of the political business and the religious business, and business, especially big business. This week we have one such story. Nearly a month ago, I was hassled by friends, by acquaintances, and by emails as to why I didn’t take WAFERGATE  seriously. I was told that if Michael Ignatieff had done such a thing like pocketing the Body of Christ, I would be crucifying Michael Ignatieff. Whooaaaaaaaah, I said! What do you base premise upon…A silly video without a time count…A silly edited video designed to further an agenda…

I am supposed to jump all over that ridiculous piece of thin gruel coming from anonymous sources, anonymous in every way except one…the goal was not anonymous, the goal was very out there, very non-secretive…the goal was to portray the Prime Minister as either a careless doofus or an insensitive lout. And my take was, I will play with it and toy with it as a political sideshow, kind of like the nonsense in the U.S. about how Obama isn’t really an American…he is really an alien…kind of like the nonsense that Michael Jackson is the greatest singer of all time, the greatest dancer of all time, the greatest civil rights leader , spiritual leader…these are media sideshows, and in the circus atmosphere that sometimes consumes this host…I am not a Christ Host, just a talk show host…in the circus atmosphere we work in, we sometimes deal with sideshows and we call them that…Their treats, snack food…Not high on protein or nutrients…Tasty sometimes, but not substantive.

You’d have to look in another thread to understand. For declaring this a non-issue and wondering why so many people have dedicated so much of their time to witch-hunting the writers, editors and janitor of the involved newspaper for nefarious Liberal links, I was called arrogant and chastised for not maintaining a 24 hour guard over the thread to answer angry partisans who wanted to take a swipe at me for not joining the mob.

Come on Cynapse you like a good fight, escalated the issue and even attempted a little race baiting while you were at it, don’t play victim now.

Most others took the stance that the propagandization of hard news to try to harm a sitting PM felt it is a very serious issue.

Victim?  No, I’m not that.  I merely referred to how jt called me on for disagreeing about the scope and severity of this problem and I met him head on (not sure where you got this race baiting idea though).  What were they expecting me to do – roll over and play Alan Colmes while they vent their righteous conservative rage?  They’ve been watching too much FOX News.  A good scrap is good for the blood, and this continent it doesn’t mean shedding blood so heck…

Plus, these same whiners spend all day finding new ways to slander Iggy and Obama, forcing the latter to produce a long-form birth certificate to prove he’s even American. Can’t get more petty and vindictive than that.

Kudos to Charles Adler! He’s right on the button.  I can’t stomach CBC and CTV and actually have not watched a nightly news broadcast in probably 6 months or so.

Cynapse we watch Fox News because that’s the only place we can see and hear small c conservative viewpoints.  I don’t want to get my news through a liberal filter anymore.  We are fed up with the status quo.

Yes, I know you think you are better than us because you don’t watch Fox.  But it’s a difference of opinion, and last time I checked, we were allowed to have differences of opinion.

You need to tone down your haughtiness a bit.  It’s getting very tiresome.

Soccermom, this is getting a bit playground-ish.  “You think you’re better than us”?. “Haughty”? Sorry, but if you can’t handle forceful dissent then you’re simply on the wrong medium.

BTW if Fox is the #1 rated news station in the US is it not therefore both MSM and status quo?  You’re far from an underdog and should probably stop trying to cast yourself as such.  Changing the slant of the filter will leave you no better informed.

As for a Canadian Fox … CanWest is tanking and they’re noticeably to the right of most stations.  Our market probably isn’t big enough to sustain an overtly partisan national news network.  Most Canadians don’t care two damns about politics either way – we vote bad politicians out rather than good ones in.  Harper is basically safe until he screws up, at which time whoever is king in the Liberal party will become PM.  His greatest virtue will be having been leader at the right time.

That is “disagreeing”? More like ad hominem. You were looking for a fight and you got one.

That comment sounds to me like what I posted about: anti-harper, anti-conservative and you apparently could care less on how that POV is put across.  Even using somone else’s funeral to do so. 23. Cynapse says:

What shocks is how quickly the lot of you are roused by even a mild dose of inflammatory language, meanwhile posting volumes of it about anyone who you deem “liberal” (which encompasses most of the population) .  The racial angle is admittedly laziness, though by constantly calling Obama “boy” and suggesting all manner of (blue collar) jobs that might be appropriate for him apart from president, you practically beg for it.

The bottom line is that you are every bit as guilty of the inflammatory and subversive language as you accuse your foes.  Is every liberal out to bankrupt the nation, destroy Christianity and provide weapons to our enemies?  About as much as every conservative is actually about screwing the poor and bombing places they can’t even pronounce or find on the map.  You know this (hopefully), yet the inflammatory language persists.

    Those in glass houses …

On a non-sarcastic note, it’s really unbecoming to bite the hand that feeds.  Thanks to the Trudeau generation, the lot of you enjoyed some pretty posh social programs (CPP, Baby Bonus, EI, Welfare) that are now circling the toilet (just as they did in Brazil, Argentina, etc) and my generation has to pay for.  You ALL lived as leftish liberals (happy to let the state assume the risk while you ran up record personal debts), which is obvious by the fact that your pension claw-backs and post-war benefit reductions even matter.  If you were (fiscally) conservative it wouldn’t matter because of course you’d all have money saved up over the years.  There was no reason not to, given detached homes could be purchased for less than triple the median nominal income.

Now that the nation is broke and the next generation of liberals aims to do what the last one did, it’s a sin.  Especially with all those “greedy” refugees and young slackers who want to have the same level of lifestyle as their parents did.

    Conservatives of convenience.

Too funny.  You try to brand me a racist and I bite back a bit and now you accuse ME of overreacting when you take every chance to do the same.  What, should I just sit back and ” take it like Colmes”, too?

OK so you voted for Harper why exactly?  And where exactly do you belong now?  Because anytime we call you a liberal you say you voted for Harper.  But here you are criticizing and frothing at the mouth at us every chance you get.  WE voted for Harper, too you know!  So why the frickin animosity?

I don’t think you have a clue, bud.

YOU are the one ready to pounce and brand us rednecks and racists.  Look in the mirror first before you start criticizing, buddy.  That’s all you seem to do around here.

I think we’ve proven that beyond a doubt today.

    Now you are backpedalling.

When I was a kid (during the so-called Trudeaupian years) I couldn’t vote, now did I?  I saw handouts to people who would rather stay home and do nothing while my parents worked their butts off to provide for us,  and yes we were poor.  I saw relatives lose everything during Trudeau’s NEP when it raped and pillaged the West.  I couldn’t vote until 1984 and I sure didn’t vote Liberal or NDP.  So what exactly are you accusing me of?  And when Reform came along, I voted for them because I saw we needed a change.  Of course you’ll call me names for admitting that, won’t you.

Have a little more respect for someone who’s obviously lived a lot longer than you and had more life experiences than you, and maybe you’ll get some back.  That’s all I ask.

It does not describe me at all, and I have my doubts that it accurately describes most others who comment here on a regular basis .  I’m 45 and have been self employed for 20 years.  I collected UI (thats back when it was called UI) , once for a very short period when I was 22.  That it for my burden.

It’s my hard work, and others like me,  that supports the disaster that is Trudeaupia.  I expect nothing from anyone that I do not earn.  And the only debt I have is my mortgage for my very modest affordable home.

So here you are condemning Trudeaupia and its legacy in Canada, and those who you percieve to suck on its teat at your expense on one hand, but defend Obamas Trudeaupianization (never used that one before!)  of the USA, while defending virtually any attack on Harper and Candian conservatives.

You seem to be incredibly ideologically conflicted to the point that I don’t think you can say you have a coherent ideology, and it seems to stem from racial issues. You seem more interested in “winning” than being correct (or at least consistent)
