Wake up call! Ignatieff & Duceppe wrong on EI
Finally, the chickens are coming home to roost for Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff. His constant crying wolf that he will take down the Conservative government over EI reform is being shown, not only as potentially devastating to the fragile Canadian economy, but as the trigger to a federal election — whether he wants one or not because:
- Bloc leader Gilles Duceppe has called Mr. Ignatieff’s bluff by saying loud and clear, that the Bloc will not support the Conservative government unless the 360 hours eligibility criteria for EI is implemented; and
- Economists with long memories are coming forward to say how that type of EI reform could boost seasonable employment with the kind of devastating economic results experienced back in the early 1970’s.
As Joan Bryden suggests in her column in canadaeast.com, Mr. Ignatieff should pay attention to what happened in the early 1970’s.
