Court confirms ruling to repatriate Khadr (1)

khadr_thumbOTTAWA — A Federal Court of Appeal judge upheld a ruling Friday ordering the government to repatriate Canadian-born terrorism suspect Omar Khadr from the U.S. military prison in Guantanamo Bay.

In April, Federal Court Justice James O’Reilly ordered the Mr. Harper government to seek Khadr’s repatriation, arguing the government’s ongoing refusal to do so violates his rights under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Mr. O’Reilly ruled the Canadian government was directly involved in Mr. Khadr’s mistreatment in Guantanamo Bay by sharing information with U.S. authorities, even though Canadian officials knew Khadr was being subjected to interrogation techniques such as sleep deprivation.

The judge also found that Canada has violated international laws that protect child soldiers.

I seem to remeber something about Obama giving the order to shoot 3 somali teenagers without trial or rights.  No gnashing of the teeth by the left or judiciary about this breach of international law. (that being said I thought it was the right move by O)

The paradox that ends up occurring when you have laws that protect child soldiers, would seem to be more child soldiers.

Here in Vancouver the drug dealers use minors to deal drugs.  I they get caught its a slap on the wrist.  An adult gets treated differently.

The Khadr family must really have some dirt on high placed people in Canada to continually have either the government (Chretien) or the judiciary continually coming to their rescue.

And it was Chretain that got the father out of a foreign jail.  What do the Khdars know that we should know.  And, did the brother ever get his passport.

Another woolly head thought by the judges of Canada.  Since when does The Great Satan’s charter apply outside the borders of the country.

I think #1 is referring to the somali pirates that were killed while trying to seize an american ship, several months ago.  They had kidnapped the captain of the ship.  They were killed during the rescue of the captain.

Y’know, it’s really hard to be a Canadian, think that I’m personally blessed by God that I live where I do, would put my life on the line to defend it, and then be expected to be enthusiastic over some POS that hates Canada and Canadians with a deep passions returning to “MY COUNTRY”.

I h0pe he does not return and further to that I hope the rest of his family and friends leave soon.

    There! I feel better already.

People are getting to pumped up here.  The US does not obey Canadian courts and so far they appear to have no desire to let him go.  We’ll see how that works out.

The lady’s lawyer has said that she may seek restitution.  What would Khdar sue for.  I for one am tired of these canadians of convenience going back home and getting into trouble and expecting us taxpayers to pay them for their stupidity.  Do they think that a canadian passport will make things different in their home country that they fled.  Are they doing it on purpose, to fleece us.

That’s quite the site, Bob.  Complete with videos by Paul Fromm.  Methinks the anti-Khadr side doesn’t need opponents the way they keep merking their own credibility.  Bit of a shame, since that family really is dubious.

    Hi Cynapse,
I’m not sure what you;re referring to. The original article I read was from MacLean’s magazine.
When I went searching for a link (google) I grabbed the one that looked right.

Sorry, no idea who Paul Fromm is.

Remember those war movies where prisoners were exchanged in the middle of a bridge between border points.  How about this,  if you give us back Khdar, we will return all those AWOL military in Canada to the US.  For good measure we will throw in all those draft resisters that fled to Canada.
What would be the reaction to all those Khadar supporters if the US courts ordered Canada to return those here AWOL.  Charges of interfering in another country blah blah blah.
