Aides to President Barack Obama are putting the final touches on a new strategy to help Democrats recover from a brutal August recess by specifying what Obama wants to see in a compromise health care deal and directly confronting other trouble spots, West Wing officials tell POLITICO.
Obama is considering detailing his health-care demands in a major speech as soon as next week, when Congress returns from the August recess. And although House leaders have said their members will demand the inclusion of a public insurance option, Obama has no plans to insist on it himself, the officials said.
“We’re entering a new season,” senior adviser David Axelrod said in a telephone interview. “It’s time to synthesize and harmonize these strands and get this done. We’re confident that we can do that. But obviously it is a different phase. We’re going to approach it in a different way. The president is going to be very active.”
Top officials privately concede the past six weeks have taken their toll on Obama’s popularity. But the officials also see the new diminished expectations as an opportunity to prove their critics wrong by signing a health care law, showing progress in Afghanistan, and using this month’s anniversary of the fall of Lehman Brothers to push for a crackdown on Wall Street.

And that’s the problem, Fern. The “Dems” are trying to sell a plan that is still being fine tuned. NOBODY knows what is going on and every politician trying to sell it is singing a different tune.
It’s called “organization” and we know all about that because Obama is really good at it or so he thinks. Another thought…the presidency in the US is a huge job and most times it takes someone with many years of experience to manage it.
So “how come” the US has been blessed with a new president and administration that can’t tell shit from shinola? I’ll tell you how.
It happened because US major news outlets never investigated him and still refuse to do what needs to be done. The odd man out is Fox News and if people want to know the rest of the story that is where they must go.
These clowns are getting creamed on that channel and it is well worth the $4.00 a month you will have to pay in Canada to watch it. You will see the other side of the story.

Has Obama lost his mojo? Does he need another jive session on the Ellen Degeneras Show – a little sashay for the cult of personality? Now those poor Americans get another doese of the overexposed poseur next week as he addresses the Congress. The man is “everywhere, he’s everywhere”. The cooking channel is calling me, at least I can learn something new and can trust the recipe. And what is this nonsense about addressing children in a school address? What’s next, legislation to lower the voting age to kindergarten? He can’t get the adults to support him so he’ll go for the low hanging fruit. Don’t forget, Obama is the smartest guy in the room, he will leave the daycare kiddies alone, they are too young, toilet training is in progress and tend to spit. Cheers.

I agree 100%, Jack. If the average non-Fox watcher would bother to educate themselves about the people O is surrounding himself with (czars, advisors), they would be shocked at the background of these people. Many of them are self-proclaimed communists and revolutionaries. And their published (yes published) ideas and quotes are even nuttier. Glenn Beck is the only one investigating. He’s not making stuff up. He’s playing quotes and footage of these people and letting them speak for themselves. Many of them echo Jeremiah Wright’s rantings and ravings, especially Van Jones, “green” jobs czar.
People need to get informed and learn about this stuff. Willful ignorance is a really dangerous thing.
Remember, also that these czars report only to Obama; they don’t have to go through any senate confirmation hearings or anything. So it’s a good thing someone is doing the vetting. I ask anyone who thinks Glenn Beck is a joke or nutcase: google some of the names of the czars and see what you come up with yourself!
