Anti-fascists clash with right-wing protesters

ukriot_thumbThere were angry clashes in a city centre today as right-wing protesters fought with anti-fascist campaigners in a busy shopping street.

A planned demonstration by The English Defence League in central Birmingham descended into violence as the group charged along New Street, close to the city’s main train station.

More than twenty men have been arrested.

‘There were about 250 people in total, fighting and throwing bottles at each other,’ one onlooker said.

The disorder spilled onto the adjoining Bennetts Hill, a street lined with a number of pubs, popular with shoppers.

Dozens of riot police worked to contain the disturbance and a police helicopter hovered overhead.

I keep in fairly close contact with relatives in Britain.  On numerous occassions they have expressed great concern for the future of their nation as a result of decades of virtually uncontrolled immigration and the growth of radical Islam.  I visited that great country a half dozen times or more but haven’t been back in about 10 years. I am heading for London next August for a wedding and I think it’s going to be an ‘eye opener’.

One of my close friends is an Indo woman from the UK. She recounted many stories of being attacked by skinheads and BNP types upon her arrival. So she claims, she wasn’t trying to change anyone’s culture or stop them from putting up Christmas trees. But she did mention that she refused to try too hard integrating into a culture that provided such a rude reception. She also cited attacks on foreigners and general exclusion as a large reason for people in her old neighbourhood joining gangs or turning to more radical forms of Islam. Could it be that he jolly Britons -not just the government- have created their own mess?

Ah yes Cynapse it is the fault of the host.  She could always leave if its so crappy.  Funny.  I live in Surrey BC and I have had conversations with many people of east indian descent who, with their opinions of other east indians, be considered horribly racist if they were white.

I would imagine that Canada’s natives felt the same way about the white man stepping foot on his/her shores.  Well, theres goes the neighborhood must have been going through their minds.  There must be something in man’s make up that makes some of them try to take advantage of others.

Yes it is the Britons’ fault, Ward. If you go out of your way to exclude people from every day legal life and society you have to expect that they will emerge as a “menace” in some other arena. The Tutsis learned that the hard way with its Hutu population, the Americans learned that with its blacks, the French learned with its Muslim population and the Han are in the process of learning that with the Uighurs.

She could always leave if its so crappy

This is an example of that arrogant tone. She did leave. Canada is apparently 100x better.

I’ll just offer the blanket conservative defense in plain English:
“It’s different when we did it!”
