Democrats Brace for Midterm Election Losses

bananas_thumbFew issues in American politics are as supercharged as health care, and when presidents choose to touch the subject, a surge of high voltage often scorches not only the chief executive, but his party in Congress.

In 1966, after President Johnson had pushed Medicare through Congress the year before, the Democrats lost 47 seats in the House and four in the Senate. In 1994, after first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton failed to overhaul the nation’s health care system, Democrats lost 54 seats in the House and seven in the Senate as Republicans swept in with the “Contract With America.”

President George W. Bush managed to get burned when tackling a similarly gassed-up issue. Mr. Bush – declaring he had political capital from his 2004 re-election that he was going to spend – sought to revamp Social Security, Republicans lost 30 House seats and five in the Senate in 2006.

With President Obama plummeting in the polls as Americans examine his health care reform plan, predictions are starting to roll in that Democrats face what Mr. Bush did after the 2006 elections – called a “thumpin’.”

Not that a single one of these Beck storm-troopers will believe it, but I’d put $100 on Obama being relieved the Republicans take away his super-majority.  The Dems have fallen to an extreme faction and the executive really has very little power in such situations.  The Repubs have to take one house for the US to be governed from the center once again.  Obama knows it, just as he is now fully aware that his personal popularity can only cover so much dirt.

I believe it… and I’ll bet Obama is praying it’s the House so he can bury Pelosi.

Beck storm troopers?   Granted Glenn Beck is not a typical talking head like Wolf Blitzer or Larry King or the rest of their ilk.  Quite the opposite as a matter of fact that’s for sure.   But the real issue is that millions of Americans have heard Beck’s questions which he always backs up with often shockingly compelling facts.  The White House or Democrats response has been silence. The White House hasn’t provided any answers, neither has the Democratic Party.  Instead they engage in personal attacks which are no substitute for answers to these questions and Americans know it and are on to them.  Simple answers are all Americans expect and they deserve no less.  Beck’s style is different but the background investigation he does before he formulates his questions is thorough.  Now, if the rest of the MSM could just manage to pull their heads out of their arses and follow suit.   By that I don’t mean take sides, just investigate competently with a desire for the truth, report and let the people decide.   It’s too late for them to break new ground though because Fox has already got that work ethic covered.

Oh, and speaking of the ‘anything but Fox’ media groupies, also known by many as the traditional MSM in a state of constant denial loyalists…..“The question may not be so much who they are, as who they hate, or at least who they intensely dislike.”  Now isn’t this a heck of a way to run a news organization?
