A patient has become so disgusted with hospital food he has taken to posting pictures of meals on the internet – asking people to guess what the dishes are supposed to be.
The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, has been stuck in hospital since February after being struck down with a rare bone infection and is currently in traction.
Faced with extreme boredom, he launched a blog under the pseudonym ‘Traction Man’ to post his thoughts about the NHS and especially the food.
After suffering months of unbearable food at ‘Blogtown General Hospital’ he came up with the idea of posting photos of the cuisine online for his friends to identify.
But the dishes are so unrecognisable the patient’s followers have been unable to identify half of them on his ‘Hospital Food Bingo’ board.
He said: ‘I’m sat on my back in traction, I can’t move from my bed, so I thought it would be entertaining to take pictures of what I have to eat and then get my friends to guess what they are.
‘There’s almost a general theme of wallpaper paste made with milk – that’s what most of the food seems to taste like.
‘There is a little bit of variety, because you never know what you’re going to get. Today was vegetable moussaka. I posted a picture, but so far it’s stumped everyone.
‘The entree tends to be uniform beige. Most of the vegetables need to go in a spin dryer before you get to eat them – they are that wet.
‘As for the puddings, the jam roly poly takes the cake. It certainly tastes like it’s been rolled – right across the kitchen floor.

Actually is is much easier f0r the body to process as it already is crap.
In fairness the food quality deteriorates quickly the longer time it takes to get from the kitchen to the patient. So the main problem is likely timely delivery. Take a good homecooked meal and put it on a plate and cover it with a plastic molded cover. Then leave is sit on the counter for 45 – 90 minutes before you eat it. It probably would be quite as appetizing. Even kept in a 155 degree warming oven its palatability component drops very quickly.

I think you’re right, Mike. I spent six days in hospital a few years ago and that was my only complaint.
The food.
I couldn’t leave fast enough because I was starving to death and maybe there’s a thought there.
Heh…
I think it’d done deliberately so folks aren’t in any rush to return to the hospital…
This is amusing in a macabre sort of way. How can people eat when the visual presentation is so off. When patients are ill, its hard to entice them to eat – they are sensitive to smells and sights. I sympathize with the patient. On a slightly different note, I have a friend who resides in a upscale nursing home – her complaint – not enough gravy – everything is dry. Cheers.
“This is amusing in a macabre sort of way.”
True but I feel like Mac. The more dogfood you feed the patients the faster they will leave. There is an ulterior motive here and it saves big bucks.
Truth: Canada knows about that stuff.
Most of the detachments where I worked fed the prisoners held in custody stuff like Eggo waffles with syrup for breakfast then frozen TV dinners for lunch and supper. It fulfilled the basic nutritional needs but it certainly wasn’t appetizing.
I remember having a chat with one guy who said the food was enough to keep him from ever wanting to return. As I recall, he was doing his sentence on the weekends and once he’d served his last day, I never saw him in jail again. How’s that for rehabilitation?
