NDP to prop up Tories to pass EI changes
The NDP says it will support the Conservatives on a crucial budget motion Friday — and keep propping up the government long enough to pass EI legislation to help unemployed workers.
The news appears to rule out a fall election, as long as the bill to give 20 more weeks of benefits to long-tenured workers is still in play.
It comes a day after the Bloc Québécois announced that it will vote for the minority government’s ways-and-means motion Friday, averting an immediate election.
The motion is considered a matter of confidence, meaning the government needs the support of one of the opposition parties to survive.
New Democrat MP Thomas Mulcair says his party will support the Tories until they pass the EI legislation unveiled Monday.
That means a Liberal non-confidence motion expected the first week of October is likely to fail.

It looks to me as though the NDP and Liberals did a little polling and found out that if they brought down a stable government at this moment, that we could kick their asses for the rest of their political lives. If that’s what they thought, then they’ve got it about right. They have nothing to offer us that is an improvement on what we have, and we all know it.

I don’t think the decision of the ndp to pass said legislation, and support the PM will have negative effects on them. Might have the opposite reaction, move soft liberal support to them.

I guess Jack wanted to make sure EI changes went through in case he needs them.

I’d love to see Layton call a news conference and nobody show up.

Good pic. Either that is one seriously hideous Jack-O’-Lantern, or Jack Layton is a chameleon weasel attempting to camouflage himself against a bright orange background, so nobody will notice his new yellow streak.

Could all this love for the PM from Jack and Gilles be a cover-up for the coalition.

Maybe I should change my nickname to Nostradamus?
First Gilles blinked, then Layton… Now, will Count Iggy introduce his confidence motion and suffer ignobly as the government dodges the bullet yet again?

Iggy reminds me of the kid who scrimped and saved so he could buy a pair of Levi 501 red tabs in order to fit in with the in crowd. When at last he buys the red tabs he finds out that the in crowd is now wearing Dockers.
