Three Navy SEALs, one born and raised in south suburban Blue Island, are to be arraigned this week on allegations they roughed up a reputed Iraqi terrorist.
You may not recall the alleged terrorist’s name — Ahmed Hashim Abed — but you may remember the images from the 2004 horrific crime he is suspected of planning.
Four Blackwater security contractors from our country were murdered, their mutilated bodies dragged through the streets of Fallujah, Iraq. Remains of two of the men were strung up on a bridge, as Iraqis shouted anti-American slogans — a horrifying image that flashed across computer and television screens and newspaper front pages across the world.
It’s important to remember those victims’ names:
Stephen S. Helvenston, Mike R. Teague, Jerko Gerald Zovko and Wesley J.K. Batalona.
It’s also important to know the names of the three Navy SEALS facing charges:
Julio Huertas, formerly of Blue Island, Jonathan Keefe and Matthew McCabe.
Those men put their lives on the line for their country when they successfully captured Abed.
They are heroes, plain and simple, and it’s mind-boggling that they face charges for what amounts to little more than punching Abed and remaining loyal to one another during an investigation.

Obama, the CIC, could put an end to this miscarriage with a 20 second phone call, and he should. But he won’t. Well at least the American military didn’t have to endure a repeat of a previous performance which would have had him jumping to the nearest microphone and calling these brave Navy Seals stupid.
BTDT is correct. Obama can end this with a phone call — or a “face to face” order.
I’m surprised he hasn’t already done so.
Obama’s war on America continues unabated, he really hates that country and especially institutions like the military, he will do everything in his power to demoralize and destroy them.
I can’t imagine what motivates those leading this inquisition to continue their persecution.
For those who hate all things military, the results of the trial are irrelevant. Even if they’re proved innocent (which is a far sight harder than being found not guilty), pacifists will claim it’s a white-wash.
Lets assume that they are found guilty of giving a terrorist a bloody lip and given any punishment at all, much less a serious punishment or a black mark on their careers: What do you think is the message sent to the best of the best of the special forces personnel for the next time they are sent to take into custody a terrorist at the request of the weenies in charge, or the chief weeny in charge ?
One reaction will be to drag their feet, sit on their hands and not capture the terrorist. Another reaction might be to just kill the guy as a dead guy doesn’t complain about a split lip !
Go rogue and do their Black Ops as they should be done, fake the reports for the weenies tender p.c. sensibilities and frag anyone who gets in the way ( talks ) ! Not good as this might easily go way out of control in many different ways ?
In both cases morale goes way down and you lose having efficient and in control special forces when you might need them most as they can’t or won’t do the job you need them to do in an honest and sanctioned way: They either don’t do the job or do the job anyway at the risk of being prosecuted for doing the job.
Even with an acquittal these bad conditions are already in place now unless a clear signal is sent that what is ” rogue ” is this stupid prosecution and it’s stopped now with the ones stupid enough to lay charges ending up being reprimanded or demoted figuratively to latrine duty !
Oh, think of the message the terrorists are getting: Fake a split lip or provoke a real split lip and then take a special forces unit out of effective use by having them prosecuted !
This is just another example of the Obama mindset when it comes to the war on Terror. I am ashamed of our President, and Eric Holder, the Homeland Security Chief, and the rest of his nominees. He rules like a Community Activist. He makes America look weak. Those that hate us are not impressed with our Judicial System. To give Terrorist the same rights as an American is a slap in the face of Democracy. Closing Gitmo shows his weakness. Thank God we can vote the whole bunch out.
