A 2,000-page epic of science and skepticism — Part 1 (18)

Now that the Copenhagen political games are out of the way, marked as a failure by any realistic standard, it may be time to move on to the science games. To get the post-Copenhagen science review underway, the world has a fine document at hand: The Climategate Papers.

On Nov. 17, three weeks before the Copenhagen talks began, a massive cache of climate science emails landed on a Russian server, reportedly after having been laundered through Saudi Arabia. Where they came from, nobody yet knows. Described as having been hacked or leaked from the Climatic Research Unit of the University of East Anglia, the emails have been the focus of thousands of media and blog reports. Since their release, all the attention has been dedicated to a few choice bits of what seem like incriminating evidence of trickery and scientific repression. Some call it fraud.

Email fragments instantly began flying through the blogosphere. Perhaps the most sensational came from a Nov. 16, 1999, email from Phil Jones, head of East Anglia’s Climatic Research Unit (CRU), in which he referred to having “completed Mike’s Nature trick” to “hide the decline” in temperature.

These words, now famous around the world as the core of Climategate, are in fact the grossest possible oversimplification of what the emails contain. The Phil Jones email and other choice email fragments are really just microscopic particles taken from a massive collection of material that will, in time, come to be seen as the greatest and most dramatic science policy epic in history.

A European cousin emailed me saying that so many private jets were used to transport ‘delegates’ of whatever they called themselves to this summit that they had to use Norway as an overflow parking lot and so many limos were needed they had to be brought from Germany as Denmark ran out.  What a bunch of hypocrits.

There were earlier estimates that the flights and limos alone to move these lard butts around for eleven days equalled the carbon footprint for three Canadian cities with a total population of 230,000 for the same period.

I do wish that the average lay person would understand that Speculation dressed up in Academic language is not Science.  It is speculation.  The theory of evolution is speculation because we have no way of actually confirming it.  AGW is speculation at best, a scam at worst, because there is no proof that the effect is occurring let alone the “cause” causing the effect.

The world is better off that the Copenhagen summit went on as planned, since its circus atmosphere put paid to the notion that there is any consensus about climate change being settled. The Danish no doubt assumed they were going to show the world just how enlightened they are by hosting such a progressive event, but imagine their horror in having to watch along with the entire world as their liberal police state welcomed like-minded socialists from all over the globe in such a heavy handed manner. I can’t see many cities lining up to host such progressive events in the future.

Neither can I.  From appearances Mexico is next.  They should cancel.

    Perhaps Afghanistan could host it.

My latest thought on “climate change”: it’s impossible to prove because it would require  millenniums of observations in order to conclude that, in fact, a climate anomaly actually exists.
This whole surrealistic episode in the history of mankind is nothing more than a culmination of greed, ideology, gullibility, a desire for control, willful ignorance, deceit and arrogance.  We definitely have not come a long way, baby.
