The year of the ‘nemesis’
As another year ends, there will be the auditing of how 2009 stacked up against other bygone years.
The best that might be said of 2009 for certain is the worst fear of a near-total economic breakdown was either greatly exaggerated, or the world got lucky.
Indeed luck, as the myths of the ancient Greeks and Romans had it, is the blind dispensation of the goddess of fortune.
And it is perhaps better to be lucky in prayers to our respective deities than rely on the sagacity of those politicians and intellectuals who think nothing in playing God.
Nemesis
Again, in the ancient Greek mythology, “moira” or fate of man never went unmet when he acted out of caprice or pride.
“Nemesis,” the goddess of retribution, always followed closely the “hubris” or arrogance of an individual taunting the gods of destiny.
We might well look back upon 2009 as the year of the “nemesis” and thankfully take it as a warning not to pay much heed to the arrogant prattle of those we appoint to positions of authority in public life.
At the beginning of 2009, the man Americans elected to be their 44th president took office.

Male, retired and the rest is of little interest to anyone. The site keeps me busy and if it helps others to stay abreast of daily events then my time is well spent.

Ahh I love the smell of failure in the morning. The Guardian says it all: “Copenhagen Ends in Failure.”
It used to be Bush’s fault, he kept Kyoto alive because the wealth transfer lefties assumed Bush was the only obstacle to success. But now they are blaming the “Nobel prize winning President”.

Few people pay attention to Salim but they should. He’s muslim and he has a completely different view of his faith than most do. He’s also well educated in the religion although not a mullah.
Perhaps he should be. He is educated in western thought and can put it all together for those who do not understand.

Poor ‘ol Annointed One. Copenhagan was nothing more than an exercise in community organizing to him. That’s all he knows. Why the rush to get health care passed before Christmas? If he doesn’t have Obamacare to lie and mislead America about in the upcoming State of the Union address, after his first full year in office he’ll have absolutely nothing to talk about…….besides himself of course. That should cut the speech to about 3 hrs.

Yes Salim Mansur is a Muslim born in Calcutta who left for darned good reasons.
He can’t understand why the politically correct West doesn’t stand up for their own principles of liberty that delivered a far superior society than ones emigrants in the third world are escaping from when they come and live here. He is a Muslim that has caused me to fear political Islam more than I would have otherwise. He warns in an AfPak column:
“All roads of Islamist terror may well lead to Waziristan … Here Islamists waging war in the Middle East, Central Asia, Kashmir, North Africa or planning for attacks in the West gather to recuperate and prepare.
This is not an entirely new situation for Waziristan. Its role as safe haven for jihadists (Islamist warriors) goes a long way back.
In the early years of the last century Lord Curzon, Britain’s viceroy in India, observed, “No patchwork scheme — and all our present schemes are mere patchwork — will settle the Waziristan problem. Not until the military steamroller has passed over the country from end to end, will there be peace. But I do not want to be the person to start that machine.’ “

Here ya go, Jack. Mansur is one of my favorites. His writing has meter and style, unlike the usual journalist gibberish. His choice of subject matter is wide-ranging and relevant.
