It’s all Bush’s fault, I tell you!!
Oh well, at least no one yet is throwing shoes at the big ‘O’.
It’ll happen (or an equivalent). But it will happen from the left. For all the hate Obama’s getting from conservatives, he’s governing well to the right of his stated mantra and his acolytes are finally catching on.
You’re right, Cy… It will come from the left as the right aren’t nearly as extremist or uncontrolled as the left… and there’s a considerable difference between governing to the right of his mantra and governing from the right. For instance, Dubya didn’t govern from the right.
It has nothing to do with what you said – the right will be the ones who “water the tree” with Obama if it happens, since they’re always calling for it at those damn tea parties. They’re also the ones bringing rifles to their rallies and calling him an illegitimate president (for reasons that should be obvious).
But we expect that. They are the right. The FBI / Secret Service / etc are already probing their activities.
The left would be expected to support a minority, liberal president but on paper Obama’s only slightly to the left of Dubya in all areas except domestic social spending. The government isn’t going to take over people’s mortgages, there will be no absolutely free universal healthcare, no slave reparations are forthcoming, no extended aid for Africa (his speech in Ghana was borderline patronizing). In the long run, it’s the jilted lover one must fear the most and Obama’s going to have to answer to the large numbers of leftists who campaigned endlessly for him, as he gradually forsakes all of their goals.
Hate from the Right ? Certainly some of the Extreme Right ( depends on what one defines as extreme ??? ) I would agree, but a lot of the Right or Middle are unconvinced that Obama has any wisdom or common sense let alone any special intelligence or knowledge to be a leader to have confidence in difficult times. ( Or at least the level of confidence in Obama is not at it’s pre election peak ! )
The left and especially the ” Extreme Left ” ( again depends on one’s definition of extreme ) where expecting miracles and magic wand politics with bright balloons and candy ! ( sorry a little sarcasm here ). They will be disappointed as even a left wing President with left wing but reasonable policies would disappoint them I think.
So at the next election you have the Right that would never vote for Obama, the Right and Middle that might have voted for Obama in the last election, the disappointed extreme Left that expects too much and the Moderate left not impressed with his performance ( so far and probably going forward ): So who will be left voting for him or many of the democrats ??? An equally unappealing Republican Party of old party hacks is the Democrats only hope to retain the Presidency, and a majority in Congress or the Senate.
A lot can happen this year to make things even worse and 2012 is still far away so anything can happen between now and then.
