Steyn: Cross the River, Burn the Bridge

Last week, during a bit of banter on Fox News, my colleague Jonah Goldberg reminded me of something I’d all but forgotten. Last September, during his address to Congress on health care, Barack Obama declared: “I am not the first President to take up this cause, but I am determined to be the last.”

Dream on. The monstrous mountain of toxic pustules sprouting from greasy boils metastasizing from malign carbuncles that passed the Senate on Christmas Eve is not the last word in “health” “care,” but the first. It ensures that this is all we’ll be talking about, now and forever.

Government can’t just annex “one-sixth of the U.S. economy” (i.e., the equivalent of annexing the entire British or French economy, or annexing the entire Indian economy twice over) and then just say: “Okay, what’s next? On to cap-and-trade . . . ” Nations that governmentalize health care soon find themselves talking about little else.

Steyn nails it again. A permanent left-of-centre government sounds like Ontario, McLiar raised enormous amounts of tax money and gave it to ‘health care’ bureaucrats and Unions along with Education bureaucrats and Unions plus a few other rent-seekers.  And he gets re-elected, and the majority get poorer.  Fire them all.

I wonder how long the current crop of Lefties will hold sway. Everything they touch turns to goo and then smells like rotten left wing pork.

Its a strange country that will spend (borrow) trillions of tax dollars  putting a man into space and fighting wars (some based on lies)  but very little for public  health care.  I believe the U.S. is the only industralized nation in the world  not to offer, even basic health care for its citizens.
But, their federal politicians probably  have a lovely health care plan paid for by the taxpayer.

“but very little for public  health care”

UV , let’s stick to the facts. About 1/6th  (16%) of the US GDP is spent on Health Care. That’s massive, it’s already the largest portion in the world and now with ObamaCare it will consume an even bigger portion.

The “public” portion in the US is currently about the same as in Canada, in the 6% range (we add about 3% privately but it will have to grow rapidly to care for baby boomers)

Thats right Nom and look what they have.  Millions of citizens  with little or no coverage.  Its time the americans get their priorities straight.  Look after your own before spending trillions of tax dollars fighting wars on behalf of others.
After all, wasnt it Bush who once said ‘we’re not in the business of nation building?’

Even if what you said was true UV the Dems have done nothing to fix the percieved “problem”, because as Steyn notes that not what it ever truly was about.  Real fixes would have included Tort Reform and making insurance companies compete by removing interstate restrictions on insurance.

If I were a corrupt individual I know what Party I would join.  The one that is beyond any real criticism or questioning by the media.  And thats exactly who the Dem party is filled with  (yes there are corrupt individuals in both parties, but common sense tells you that if your going to be dirty its smarter to do so where not much sunlight is shone.)

Every American has access to Medicare and Medicaid, only uninformed opinionators spread the lie that there are Americans who “don’t get health care”.

And that’s without even looking at people who are underinsured, or who have insurance that’s essentially useless.
