Critics say anger is growing over PM's 'imperial' style

OTTAWA–Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s “imperial” style and open “contempt” for Parliament is wearing thin with Canadians, opposition critics say.

Opposition parties predict a growing public unrest over Harper’s decision to once again prorogue, or suspend, Parliament for self-serving reasons instead of getting down to work later this month.

“Harper can try to shut down public business but he can’t shut down politics. The engagement with the public will continue,” Liberal MP Bob Rae (Toronto Centre) said Friday.

So says the opposition critics.  It’s always so heartwarming to hear these losers claim they speak for all or even a majority of Canadians.   They wish.

Of course this would be in the red star and they would not allow comments on this story,  every time they print a story of this type the comments are against them their attempts to undermine PMSH.  Of course it was okay when Creiten et al were doing the same thing.

The ” Critters ” ( Oh, I mean Cretins ….. OOOOPs I mean CRITICS ) are angry ! So the people of Canada must be angry ….. LOL.

Maybe ” THE CRITICS ” should get out more of the stale air of the Parliament buildings or of the Parliamentary Press Gallery and hear the deafening silence of people not caring much !

Hynd – As they say, ‘two wongs dont make it right’ (anyone for an egg roll).  Even the right leaning Toronto Sun is taking a shot at the PM over this issue ‘PM can run, but cant hide.’  Jan 2, page 18.

‘In this case, the proposed hiatus is a transparent attempt on Harper’s part to avoid facing Parliament, in the face of a detainee torture scandal that wont go away.’

And ‘when did the words right and wrong stop meaning anything at all in politics?’

A good question that I’m sure many Canadians would like an answer to from both the Liberals & Conservatives.

Funny how the Afgahn Detainee file won’t go away, but climatefraud got buried as fast as humanly possible by the same national media.

They got nowhere with the manufactured Schriebergate and they will get nowhere with the Detainee affair.

Ward, another topic that probably wont go away is the ‘Hated Sales Tax’ especially in B.C. and vote rich Ontario.  No wonder HM PM doesnt want to sit in the HoC with all of this building up.

Voters won’t remember 90% of this manufactured drama.  They will remember the sales tax and how antithetical it seems to small-government conservatism.  That’s the part Harper needs to worry about.

#8, It all depends on the timing of a federal election with relation to the HST implementation date. At this point, the HST seems to be haunting the provincial government more than the feds. That could be because it’s a more significant change on the part of the province(s).

As far as the opposition’s rhetoric, they’ve been screaming “nasty Harper, evil Harper, cold-blooded Harper, hidden agenda” for so long, no-one really pay much attention to it anymore… especially since Harper continues to guide the country with aplomb which defies all of their criticism. At some point, one would hope the opposition would awaken to the fact they’re not getting traction and start looking for better tactics…

Re: # 9 — As Chretien once said — “Backwards and forwards, backwards and forwards,  Canadians know what to do when they are stuck in the snow.

“Backwards and forwards and pretty soon they are back on the road”.

And as Jock McBile added when pointing out the comment:

“Backwards and forwards, Jean and it ISN’T SNOW we are stuck in.”

    I’m laughing.

I dont think that the Prime Minister is worried about the detainee issue. It has been dealt with, and the opposition is just regurgitating old news.
HST is a provincial issue, is it not? I realize the Federal Government encourages it, but the Province is the ultimate arbiter of whether it happens or not.
The Senate is the issue. More specifically the committees, which could be restructured following the prorouging and new appointments. I would not even call it brilliant strategy, since it is an obvious thing to do if there is to be any hope of passing bills that are presently being held up.

Realistically, the opposition should be just as steamed about the Senate holding things up as the Tories are. After all, some of those bills were passed unanimously and Senate isn’t giving them “sober second thought” so much as “parked in a tow away” zone… but they (the opposition) see this as an opportunity to mudsling.

Personally, I think that the Canadian people rest easier when the likes of Boob rhy, Jacko and the Dippers and the Sepratistias are as far away from the coffers of the nation as we can get them.  PMSH did the right thing letting those shysters out of Ottawa and the HOC until he can get some new senators in the red house to pass the legislation that has been tied up in the red house for months.  Nothing can get done as long as those unca mo drones stall the business of Canada.

As for appointing members to the red house – blame the lame duck Premiers – the elected senators from Alberta are in there representing Alberta! – Sask. has enabling legislation to elect senators; maybe Sask and Alberta would elect some senators for the rest of the provinces if the people of the backward provinces asked them.  Same blame goes for the people of Ont. and B.C. who do not want the HST – talk to your so called Premiers folks, B.C. wants the HST cash from the Feds (paid out to the Premiers by all tax payers to ‘help’  harmonize and to compensate for any provincial shortfalls) to fund the Olympics, Ont. wants to buy some votes via social program enhancement.  The Feds were asked to do this – not the other way around.  The Premiers are handing the Feds more control of the provinces they were elected to run…poor choices lead to poor results…Ont. had Mike Harris and prospered, B.C. had Bill Vander Zalm and the Bennetts (Social Credit) and they prospered…connect the dots people of Ont/B.C.

The Yukon has not prospered since the early 1980′s (Cons. territorial outfit and Eric Nielson); Luxury welfare via transfers is NOT prosperity (take note Quebec, same category as the Yukon).  The stupid choice to elect a Dipper/Lib government ALWAYS leads to poverty for the people.  This is not Rocket Science!!

  19. Mac says:

By proroguing the Parliament and nominating new Senators, the slate of Senate committees will be modified to reflect the new numbers. Right now, the Senate is still dominated by Liberals so the various committees are dominated by Liberals. That grip is about to be loosened.

The Conservatives will use this time well as they will be preparing a new Speech from the Throne and budget to be tabled as soon as the new Session begins. In the meantime, the Cabinet and Treasury Board continue to lead the government.

The opposition and the media will soon figure out that Canadians aren’t as enthralled with old allegations from Afghanistan as they are and that matter will disappear just like every other manufactured crisis which they’ve produced.
