The online grocer Ocado has reported record sales for the Christmas period.
Like-for-like sales for the week ending December 26, 2009 were up 49% on 2008 at £8.9m, a spokesman said.
The grocery delivery firm took orders to 41,918 customers, up 30% from 2008, and delivered more than 3.5 million items.
Ocado said like-for-like sales for the four weeks ending on Boxing Day this year were up 30% from 2008 at £40.8m.
Orders rose 34.5% to 299,291 – with an average spend of £136 – and 17.8 million items were delivered.
The company’s chief executive officer Tim Steiner said: “The rock of our success is our fantastic team; this year more than ever they made extraordinary efforts, particularly in the bad weather during Christmas week, making it to work and making deliveries in very difficult road conditions.
