Senate feud brewing over report on RCMP

OTTAWA — A new feud is brewing in the Senate after Liberal senators said they plan to release a controversial committee report on the RCMP while Parliament is shut down — a move the Tories say is “unprecedented, dangerous and offensive.”

Sen. Colin Kenny, long-time chair of the Senate’s national security and defence committee, said the Liberals will release the report’s content but won’t describe it as an official committee report.

Committees are dissolved when Parliament is prorogued.

“I guarantee they (the Conservative senators) will not go forward with this report. The only way it will go public is if the Liberals make it public,” Kenny said.

Conservative Sen. Pamela Wallin said the Liberals have no right to do this and accused Kenny of using his position as a “bully pulpit” to spread his “own bias.”

“No one behaves this way,” Wallin said. “These are observations that don’t belong to him … (Kenny) is not chair of the committee and the report is no longer his.”

Liberal Sen. Grant Mitchell said he “fundamentally disagrees” with Wallin.

OOOOOh, I smell “election” right in the middle of the Olympics. The 62 Percenters are feeling their oats. If they can’t steal a government after a vote, they’ll engineer a way to end-run Parliament and the voters some other way. This should be front page news “Un-elected Liberal Senate attempting to run the country, ’cause the elected ones are such doofuses”. “Liberal Senatorial coup?” “Liberal Senators preaching sedition, claim they have a right to govern that supercedes Parliament, or anybody else”.

The media is so out of its mind re the success of the PM that they with the opposition are going to try every trick in the book to get an election.  Is it to get rid of iffy and he wont quit.  If this trick doesn’t call for senate reform, nothing will.
Losing the senate is the reason the libs are out in full battlegear.  It has finally hit them, they have lost 70 seats, will not get them back and can only get in power with a coalition with the ndp and bloc.

Really, is the left going to hold him to that no matter what?  Absolutely under no circumstances can he call an early election?  Of course he can but only if the left feels it is to their party’s advantage to do so.  The well being of the country hasn’t in the past nor does it ever enter into the left’s definition of justification.  As the saying goes ‘shit happens’ and if the PMSH genuinely believes that it is this country’s best interests to call an election, then it is his job first and foremost to do so.   Despite the fact that Liberal PM’s have obscenely abused this process in the past, so many of those living in the low track side of Canadian politics so quickly and conveniently forget or ignor that history.   If PMSH decides someday down the road that an election is in the better interests of the nation, then he’d better darn well do it and leave it up to the voters to decide if he did the right thing or not.   Despite or in spite of all the shrill squawking of the disgruntled misfits on the left and their MSM enablers the people will ultimately decide.

I dont think the public is in any mood for an election so soon after the last one.  And any one creating such a situation will probably pay for it at the polls.

Ignatieff’s leadership is really in trouble.  Those mischief making, unelected Liberal Senators are going to proceed on their own.  So what else is new? They need to form their own party of “Self Aggandizement”, or perhaps the “Party of Little Generals”, as they channel their inner Napoleonic complex.  Wonder how many of them will show up on January 25 and storm the House of Commons Bastille.  Cheers.
