Iggy does not have much money in his till so he needs to buy free volunteer support from the unions. This is strategic stuff. National Day Care. Government looking after your kids. It is a sop to CUPE which will be attacked in the March budget because the Feds have 425,000 overpaid workers.

We have too many unionized monopoly government employees at all 3 levels. They are taxpayer supported by the middle class who work in the real economy making real products.

The tension coming down can be found at today’s WSJ article.

<strong><a href="http://tinyurl.com/PublicUnionAscendency" rel="nofollow">http://tinyurl.com/PublicUnionAscendency</a></strong>

Check out the graph and here’s the money quote:

“And as union membership has grown in government, so has union clout in pushing politicians (especially but not solely Democrats) for higher wages and benefits. This is why labor chiefs Andy Stern (SEIU) and Rich Trumka (AFL-CIO) could order Democrats to exempt unions from ObamaCare's tax increase on high-cost health insurance plans. To the extent Democrats have become the party of government, they have become ever more beholden to public unions.

The problem for democracy is that this creates a self-reinforcing cycle of higher spending and taxes. The unions help elect politicians, who repay the unions with more pay and benefits and dues-paying members, who in turn help to re-elect those politicians.”

A commercial clip showing Chrétien, Martin, Dion, Ignatieff promising exactly the same thing in rapid fire for every elections since 1993 about child poverty and day care finishing with the clip of Ignatieff saying " We didn't get it done " to Dion in the Liberal leadership campaign, might be effective.

To be objective and fair I don't think any politician is safe from having his or her words quoted over a 20 year period and not have contradictions or repeated un-kept promises be quoted out of context ...... But fairness has little to do with political campaigns and an attack add works as long as it's not perceived as below the belt like the ones mocking Chrétien's facial paralysis or the " Gun on our streets ..... In Canada " that backfired badly !

Liberals still living in the past. No new ideas, no new programs, no direction except backwards. Hopefully Canadian voters, at least those who vote, will see through the Liberal fantasy.
