WASHINGTON — Conservatives seem more fired up than they’ve been in years, rallying against President Barack Obama. But energy alone won’t herald a Republican revolution, and the excitement pulsing through the party base masks the disputes and divisions ahead of critical midterm elections.
This year’s political environment certainly seems unfriendly for the Democrats who control the White House and Congress, and Republicans are poised for big electoral gains following recent statewide victories in Massachusetts, New Jersey and Virginia. Yet, fights within the party could hinder Republican prospects come November. So could the lack of both a leader and a message other than anti-Obama.
“I think 2010 is going to be a phenomenal year for the conservative cause, and I think Barack Obama is a one-term president,” former Vice President Dick Cheney declared Thursday, making a surprise appearance at an annual gathering of conservatives and earning a raucous reception.
Along with the right wing’s new fervor, the Republican Party’s struggle to find a unified voice was clear from the start of the annual three-day Conservative Political Action Conference — both in the speaker whom organizers chose to deliver the keynote address but also in what he had to say.
“America already has a Democrat Party. It doesn’t need two Democrat parties,” said Marco Rubio, suggesting that Republicans who don’t adhere to certain principles — namely his U.S. Senate primary opponent Charlie Crist in Florida — are no different from Democrats.

Does anyone really care what this ‘has-been’ has to say?
Cheney is correct but he’s like a poll. Today it would appear that Obama is in serious trouble but as we all know anything can (and usually does) happen in politics.
I’ve said the same thing as Cheney many times as regular readers know. But they also know political fortunes can turn in a heartbeat. My view is that IF (a very big “if”) Obama fired Emanuel and Chicago — IF he started to use his head for something besides a “hatrack” — he can turn things around.
I doubt he will but we’ll see in the months ahead because at this moment in history he’s dealing with a situation he cannot control and it doesn’t matter what he thinks. He’s a Democrat puppet and many…people…pull…his strings. He’s in a no win situation and I think at some point in time he will resign if he can’t get rid of the fleas that inflict him. Maybe in November, after voters use “Raid” on him, he will have another chance to show what he truly has going.
Right now, he’s dead in the water.
Wasnt Bush Sr a ‘one term President?’
Come’on, Jack. Obama’s ego will never allow him to resign. Another thing, these speakers are supposed to be the leaders, the ‘Creme de la Creme’ of the Republican Party. I hope that they’re wise enough to spend more time on developing and presenting sensible and viable solutions to America’s woes and less time on personal attacks. America is in very serious financial trouble and Obama telling the nation the worst is behind them proves him to be a liar, a fool or both.

Re: #4 — “Come’on, Jack. Obama’s ego will never allow him to resign.”
They said the same thing about Nixon and yet he did. Let’s wait for it.
Come to think of it, there are similarities. They’re both liars! LOL
Nixon: “I’m not a crook”.
Obama: “I’m not an idiolog”.
It amuses me that people in the “peanut gallery” appear to have all the answers all the time. I’m as bad as everyone else.
The truth is unless you walk in these people’s shoes you simply don’t know — and neither do I.
That’s not a “putdown” — it’s reality. We can only see the result of decisions, good and bad, by the people we elect as the media spin “whatever” in pursuit of goals only they know.
We see the broad picture colored by the people who write this stuff.
Everything needs to be “read into” considering where the author is coming from. That (in case you have missed it) includes me.
It wouldn’t surprise me if Obambam moves on sooner than later. He has broadly hinted at it and his desire is the result of his true beliefs. He truly believes that his mere presence can and will solve all problems. When no one accepts his ‘solution’ it is because they are too stupid and so he looks for another, higher position from which to display his ‘brilliance’.
