Millions of Unemployed Face Years Without Jobs

BUENA PARK, Calif. — Even as the American economy shows tentative signs of a rebound, the human toll of the recession continues to mount, with millions of Americans remaining out of work, out of savings and nearing the end of their unemployment benefits.

Economists fear that the nascent recovery will leave more people behind than in past recessions, failing to create jobs in sufficient numbers to absorb the record-setting ranks of the long-term unemployed.

Call them the new poor: people long accustomed to the comforts of middle-class life who are now relying on public assistance for the first time in their lives — potentially for years to come.

Yet the social safety net is already showing severe strains. Roughly 2.7 million jobless people will lose their unemployment check before the end of April unless Congress approves the Obama administration’s proposal to extend the payments, according to the Labor Department.

The headline says it all.  The US and all Western countries have sold out their people because of cheap labor available elsewhere but the North American market is the largest in the world and we need to STOP this theft (and that is what it is).

I guess many would call that “protectionism” but in my pointy headed view we need to shut down China and others.

You want us to play ball?

You bring your industry here and hire local workers.

    Otherwise, you bugger off.

There’s plenty of jobs, Jack. The problem is most Americans (and Canadians) don’t want to do them. We’re victims of our own success. Who wants to pick fruit? Who wants to plant trees? Everyone wants a nice union job where the hours are easy, the entitlements are ample and the work isn’t demanding. There’s a reason why the Americans have a “problem” with illegal immigrants. They’re willing to do what most Americans (and Canadians) would never sully themselves to do. The only reason we don’t have as much of an illegal immigrant problem is the Immigrant and Refugee Protection Act. We give ‘em all passports.
