Toews blasts Jaffer coverage (1)
Dear Friends, Colleagues and Others,
Yesterday (on March 9) a provincial prosecutor in the province of Ontario standing before a provincial judge withdrew charges of impaired driving and cocaine possession against former Tory MP Rahim Jaffer. Mr. Jaffer pleaded guilty to the outstanding charge of careless driving.
As he was required to do, the judge sentenced Mr. Jaffer on the basis of the charge before him and not on the basis of accusations withdrawn by the prosecutor.
As with all cases involving a provincial prosecutor it is the provincial Attorney General who is ultimately responsible for explaining why decisions involving a prosecution were undertaken. In this case the Attorney General conducting the prosecution was the Ontario Attorney General.
Not surprisingly, it didn’t take long for Winnipeg Free Press reporter Mia Rabson to pick up the Liberal spin advanced by Manitoba MP Anita Neville who suggested that this was an example of the federal Conservative government falling down on the job.
My advice to reporters asking for an explanation of the prosecutor’s decision was seen by Rabson as “political posturing” when I directed them to ask those questions to the Attorney General responsible for the prosecution. As I stated:
“I believe the Liberal – the Liberal government in Ontario would be responsible for that.”

Note:
According to Toews the charges against Jaffer were “stayed” so I guess that ends that.

Well, Jack, my take-away from this:
All of this information was available before Mr. Toews felt it necessary to make a statement.
Sooner or later we are going to have to have a law concerning media malpractice with penalties for those reporters who are lazy, dishonest, just plain stupid, or all of the above.

There is no political story here. If anyone is to blame, it is the prosecutor for negotiating the deal. The Liberals’ pathetic attempt to link the government with this case is just that: pathetic! Of course, the Liberals are trying everything, anything to find something to pin on the Conservatives to match the scale of Adscam.
Yawn…….. the Lefterds are really desperate !!

John Luft Says:
If anyone believes there really is something going on here, they need only file a complaint with the Ontario Judicial Council. Of course, no one likely will because this is simply another attempt by the Liberals to create some kind of a crisis….real or imagined.

Turned on Question Period for about 5 minutes, then my stomach turned and then I turned it off. I was just dry heaving until Jack Layton stood up and commenced wailing about Afghans torturing other Afghans inside Afghan prisons and then it was a run for the bathroom. Speaking of vomit…….“As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly” You da man Jack!

Cunctator Says:
I don’t think that this is the case of one Tory scratching the back of another. Either the cops who made the arrest screwed up badly or the prosecutor did something wrong. But, regardless, we all lost because justice was not done, nor was it seen to be done. Instead, public cynicism about the Canadian justice system was just reinforced.
Anyhow, Toews never wrote the article. He had some flunky in his constituency office write it or PMO had one of its flunkies do it — all Toews did was sign his name.

Do you have a ‘link’ to back up your statements, Cunctator? Who wrote your comment? If you did write it, why should I believe what you claim? “Flunkie” is not a good word unless you have proof of status – it implies that some people (like msm for example) are willing to farm out their souls and their integrity. Do you know the people working for Mr. Toews? Smear is not a nice word either.
