A man charged in a beating death outside a nightclub in Penticton was convicted of beating a three-year-old girl to death in Kingston, Ont., in 1999.
Michael Richard Beauchamp killed Briar Serena Greenwood in an attack the judge at his trial described as “atrocious, horrendous, wicked and hateful.”
A coroner said her injuries were inflicted by a blunt instrument — probably a fist — and that she showed multiple bruising from previous beatings. At the time of the killing Beauchamp and the girl’s mother were drug addicts and were unable to support or care for the child.
Beauchamp was sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the little girl’s death. His sentence was cut in half after he was given double credit for the two and a half years he served in jail awaiting trial.
Last Friday, Penticton RCMP arrested Beauchamp and he was charged with the second-degree murder of 53-year-old Terrence Dale Wooley.
Mr. Wooley was found unconscious with head injuries near the back door of Slack Alice’s Show Pub on April 25, 2009 and died a month later in a hospice, never having recovered from a coma.
Beauchamp remains in custody.
