Washington (CNN) — Vice President Joe Biden has “condemned.” Secretary of State Hillary Clinton scolded — and then leaked the scolding. On background, U.S. aides fret that the Israeli announcement of new settlement construction may thwart resumption of the peace process.
Let me advance an unorthodox opinion: The most dangerous cause of instability in the Middle East is the so-called peace process itself.
I know this is an unusual point of view. Please hear me out.
By my count, there have been at least 10 major outbursts of violence between Jews and Arabs in the Middle East since 1936.
Every one of these conflicts ended in a similar way. Either outside powers imposed a ceasefire — or else Israel halted military operations just before a ceasefire could be imposed.
Every one of these conflicts began in a similar way, too: with a renewed attack by the Arab side, or else (as in 1956 or 1967) by Arab violations of the terms of the previous armistice or ceasefire.
Think for a minute how unusual this is. Wars usually end when one side or the other decides it cannot continue fighting. The losing side accepts terms it had formerly deemed unacceptable because the alternative — continued fighting — seems even worse.

It is nauseating to witness the pro-Israeli MSM attempt to brainwash the public while pretending to represent journalism during acts of Israeli aggression.
It is a common misunderstanding that Palestine was taken from the Muslims and given to the Jews as compensation for the holocaust perpetrated by the Nazis in WW2.
This is only a convenient lie to help the public accept Israeli aggression.
In reality, the theft of Palestine had been planned by Jews for decades, even centuries. The terrorist group Hamas exists for only one reason, to take it back.
Israeli apartheid against Palestinians is the method employed to protect the theft. A theft which cannot be legitimate ownership.
For proof of this, research David Ben Gurion, Israel’s first prime minister who was instrumental in the creation of Israel.
“In 1956, Ben-Gurion stated: “Why should the Arabs make peace? If I was an Arab leader I would never make terms with Israel. That is natural: we have taken their country … There has been anti-Semitism, the Nazis, Hitler, Auschwitz, but was that their fault? They only see one thing: we have come here and stolen their country. Why should they accept that? They may perhaps forget in one or two generations’ time, but for the moment there is no chance. So it is simple: we have to stay strong and maintain a powerful army.”
You will see the intent to create a Jewish state since long before WW1.
You will also see how every opportunity was exploited to gain allied support to eventually boast that the land was stolen from Muslims to create Israel.
Then later in life you will see a sorry man, who recognized the human rights offences committed by the Jewish state of Israel against the Palestinian Muslims.
The same man who left Israeli government to lead by example, living in the Negev desert away from the conflict, in his mind not to bother the Palestinians.
Now research “Negev”, particularly 1948 to present for another example of current Israeli apartheid.
The truth will have the last word. Unfortunately you won’t see much truth from the pro-Israeli crowd in the MSM. You can find it yourself in the new media.
Hatred is manifested by lying, love by truth. Choose your side.
If you are still pro-Israel, answer this. What did the Jews do to deserve taking palestine from the Muslims?
I guess I stand corrected? All this while I thought that Judea was conquered by the Romans and renamed Palestine and that Judea was the home of the Jews, long before there was a Palestine.
If you steal my mitt and keep it for 20 years does that make it your mitt? Am I entitled to take it back? Once I take it back are you entitled to attack me because I took the mitt?
The answer to your question, what have they done to deserve taking Palestine is that they lived there before there was a Palestine and now they’ve taken it back.
Then of course there is always the claims of the Hittites to consider.
Well, if we had to be logically consistent then all non-aboriginals in North America should get on boats and go back to Europe or any place else they came from since the locals got screwed out of their land !
Pic any specific time in history and declared that it’s the date when every peoples where in control of their land and move everybody back to that state of affairs according to their ethnic background: The problem is that any chosen date as the perfect state of justice is going to contradict the results of choosing any other date as the benchmark to absolute justice.
Bottom line, and it isn’t pretty or nice, history is a story of competitive groups fighting for dominance and power over resources and land, if some justice can be found or created there is every reason to try to get the best approximation of justice, but every group’s first duty is to their own survival.
Jean:
No disagreement here. in fact, we’d all be staking out parts of East Africa if all conquests were settled.
That said, why do we let one state get away with endless amounts of civilian slaughters, support of rogue regimes, espionage against us, reselling military secrets to China, providing cover for convicted gangsters, etc … and still submit to their lobby? What do they have on us exactly? At least Jerry Falwell etc had their biblical return to the holy land schtick to hide behind. That non-zealots let Israel completely spit on the rulebook and still genuflect is truly confusing.
The reality is that the western allies enabled the Jews to steal Palestine from the Muslims 60 years ago. Palestine was Muslim for the previous 1000 years.
That complicity to theft is the sole reason for terrorism as we know it today.
What did the Jews do to deserve our complicity?
Look how they mistreat Muslim Palestinians today.
