LAS VEGAS – “Tea Party” activists want to turn conservative anger over the health care overhaul into political muscle in November elections as they call thousands to the hardscrabble desert town that is home to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
Sarah Palin is headlining the event Saturday in Searchlight, about 60 miles from Las Vegas, and a strong turnout could help affirm the popularity of the loosely organized Tea Party movement and build momentum against Reid and other Democratic candidates who backed health care reform.
America’s media will be focused on the former mining town, sending images across the country.
Some worry it has the potential for violence: Bricks have been hurled through Democrats’ windows and at least 10 members of Congress who voted for the bill have received threats. In the run-up to the health care vote, racial epithets aimed at black members of Congress were heard at protests attended by at least some Tea Party members.
Some have even accused Palin of inciting violence after she urged supporters on the social networking site Twitter to: “Don’t Retreat, Instead – RELOAD!”

I find it sad that the once great american Republican Party is more interested in polarizing the country than bringing it back together.
They have forgotten that politics is compromise and its a message they badly need to hear. Palin, Limbaugh, Coulter, O’Reilly & Company are entertainers, not politicians and should not be taken seriously. These high profile media pundits have hijacked the U.S. Republican movement and are more interested in stirring up controvery to make money, according to Frum.Hes probably right and it would appear his comments have cost him his job.
Their wacky influence has dumbed down a party that once was lead by some of the smartest people in America, Bush being the exception.
And if a card carrying member of the party speaks out, bang ‘your fired’ as David Frum just found out. Apparently, the extreme right leaning American Enterprise Institute termined Frums employment.
His now former employer, cares no more about free speech than did the student mob that shut down Coulters highly paid gig in Ottawa last week.
Frum deserves kudos, not the door for pointing this out.

#1:
You have left out an important ingredient of the polarization.
That would be the Democratic Party.
To pass legislation that the majority of the voters disagree with could be considered polarizing couldn’t it?
I think it is fair to say that the two parties disagree with each other.
Of course the discussion is polarized. How could it be otherwise? The only way to achieve non-polarization is for one side to subvert their beliefs.
RE: #1. Are you are basing your comments on the published reports of the ‘highly respected’ MSM? There could be no other unlying causes and this one was just the icing on the cake? Comments such as decribing the right’s opposition to Obamacare as “hysterical” or laying the blame for the passing of Obamacare directly at the feet of the right? Earth to David Frum, the vast majority of Americans opposed Obamacare so it’s the right’s fault he went ahead and jammed it down their throats anyway? Reading the article that apparently sealed Frum’s fate it sounds like the guy has come unglued. My money says there’s more to this story. Finding out might take a little bit of effort so count the MSM out, besides these people stick together like glue especially when an opportunity to slam the right presents itself, like this one did.
John Deere just announced Obamacare is going to cost that company an extra $150M this year alone. Take that Caterpillar and your paltry $100M increased costs…buncha cry babies. Note to American farmer: That new combine or swather you hoped to purchase this year, maybe next year…..maybe not then either. Maybe just sell the farm and go on ‘social assistance’.
Interesting. So if all the naysayers are correct … the American economy can’t survive without a sizable underclass that lives in third world conditions. Thus, they’ve merely been surfing off alternatives since that pesky emancipation proclamation thingie – illegal workers, rigged dog-eat-dog games, etc.
Nobody is saying that. Stop watching PMSNBC and the likes. They’re poisoning your mind. Start watching FOX on a regular basis, it’ll act as an anti-venom….guaranteed.
Actually Cy its the liberals that are working at creating a large underclass. Witness the health care reform in the US. It will drive all of America’s middle class to penury.
It has been too often said that the Conservatives love the rich which is why they want everyone to be rich.
The Liberals love the poor which is why they want everyone to be poor.
The fact of the matter is that poverty in a free society is largely self induced state of affairs. The number of people who landed on North America’s shores penniless who within their own life time have made serious money puts the lie to the “Oh pity me I’m poor” routine.
If indeed you are poor, put down the booze and the drugs, get up in the morning find some productive work you can do, save your money and prosper.
Poverty like wealth is not a fixed sum game. You make of it what you will. I’ve seen an impoverished single mom take a ten pound bag of flour and create a cookie empire. I’ve seen a homeless man take a box of pencils and make an office supply empire. I’ve seen a man take a borrowed milk cow and start a farming empire.
I’ve seen men and women take a healthy paycheck and have nothing to show for it but a hangover two days later. I’ve seen men and women not show up for work on Monday because they found some drugs on Sunday. I know of one man who got fired after he left the job undone and in an unsafe condition. He couldn’t wait for his shift to end before heading home to drink his daily ration of 24 beer. I’ve seen parents take their monthly welfare cheques and blow the entire sum at bingo and then beg for milk and bread to feed their children the next day. I’ve seen the same parents, when they win at bingo take their winnings and buy toys for themselves and still be out begging for food the next day.
Don’t believe me? Follow me for a few days and you will see it over and over and over again because I work to get poor people out of poverty. I know their ruses and their excuses. I’ve heard their “I’ll do better next time” promises over and over and over again.
In working with the ‘poor’ I inevitably ask the ‘poor’ individual, “Are you stuck, or do you want to be there”? More often than not they admit they want to be there. They want to be there because it is comfortable. It’s familiar to them. They want to be there because they don’t have to be responsible. I know people who have spent years sleeping ‘on the mats’ (homeless shelters) because they don’t want to pay child support which would cut into their drinking budget.
The ones I have seen break the poverty cycle inevitably took it upon themselves to do better. They didn’t use “its a sickness” excuse. They took responsibility for themselves, said no to temptation and went to work. One fellow had been unemployed for 10 years. One day, staring at the bottom of a half empty bottle of booze he thought to himself, “If I don’t stop this I’ll be dead in a year. He set the bottle down walk away from it. He went through hell as he withdrew from the booze but at the end he found productive work and he now has more money than you and I combined. For ten years he had an enabler called Government give him all he needed to continue the life of a street bum alcoholic. Within himself he found the will to stop and change course.
Poverty is NOT a fixed sum and no amount of government will help the impoverished except to keep them where they are.
No, we have the answer; no, we have the answer; no, we have the answer!
“the American economy can’t survive without a sizable underclass that lives in third world conditions.”
Yup, that’s why the Mexicans have been leaving all the comforts of home to become aliens in America.
“Palin, Limbaugh, Coulter, O’Reilly & Company are entertainers, not politicians and should not be taken seriously.”
Maybe UV, Frum and Den Tandt should take a little course in critical thinking, or maybe just plain common sense capitalism. Because if Frum expects to be paid $100,000 by the conservatives at AEI, then maybe he should not be attacking conservatives, he should instead be attacking the enemy.
Sure, Frum is free to attack the conservative “entertainers” but he should do that for free. Why should AEI pay him to do that?
Meanwhile Obama, Pelosi and Reid are not entertainers. They are the servants of
“We the people” who have flipped the equation to “We the Government”.
The US is a centre right country and these politicians ignored the will of the majority of the people. So now these politicians are attacking the messengers. Why doesn’t Frum attack that? He’s been living in the bubble of Washington for so long now that he’s lost his economic compass.
It appears that Frum is like Iggy and Obama, they do not understand the people whom they want to influence. Frum has become part of the establishment that wants to rule the middle class. That establishment exists in both parties. It needs to be cleaned out and that is what the Tea Parties are about.
That IS what the Tea Parties are about and there is a huge one happening today right in (soon to be former) Senator Harry Reid’s backyard. People began camping out last evening to make sure they were up front when the rally begins. Check it out on FOX.
Joe, thankyou for your service to humanity.

re: #13 Senator Reid spent 60 million tax dollars on a shooting range??????? A shooting range in the desert!!!!??????!!!!
And to think I got politically involved to dump ‘Landslide Annie’ after she gave away a quarter of a million dollars so some independent engineers could have new carpet in their rented offices.
Please refer to Frum as an ex employee of said organization. He got fired.
Mary…some consider that as censorship which Anne Coulter experienced in Ottawa.
UV , Frum isn’t censored. He is simply not being paid any more by conservatives to be anti-conservative.
However, Frum is free to go make movies with Michael Moore and bash conservatives with Jon Stewart and get all tingly up his legs with Chris Matthews. But no conservative will be censoring Frum; we simply won’t be listening to him any more.
UV: To most people with an IQ above that of melting snow there is a clear difference between not allowing someone to speak and firing someone for not saying what you are paying him to say.
If I didn’t pay to hear Coulter speak does that mean I was censoring her or does it mean I’m not interested in what she has to say?
If I fired my defense lawyer for taking the prosecutors side against me in court was I censoring him or firing him with just cause?
Frum is still free to say what ever he wants to say just as is Coulter. Its just that Frum will not be paid to speak by AEI just like Coulter.
The Republican motto must now be ‘its my way or its the highway’ I still find it amazing how political parties eat their own.
One is not allowed to be a ‘free thinker.’ in any of their parties. ‘Tow the line’ and never mind representing your constituents, here or down there.
And you hear all kinds of discord coming from the dumbocrats UV?
Oh BTW just to let you know AEI is not a political party! Its a rightwing influence group with paid spokesmen.
What I do hear and read , Joe is that the Republicans were the real big spenders, not the Democrats. The eight years of Republican rule under Cheney/Bush that culminated in that meltdown turned the $240 billion budget surplus that they inherited in 2001 into the $482 billion defict Obama inherited.
To that three quarter trillion dollar swing you can add the $5 trillion that the former Republican president and vice president added to the national debt, which almost equals the might-have-been $5.6 trillion in surpluses the Congressional Budget Office had predicted for 2001-2011.
It took prevous U.S. governments 200 years to get the national debt to $5 trillion and the Cheney/Bush government just eight years to effectively double it.
Nope, I dont think the Republican have any credibility when it comes to running an cost efficient budget.
You don’t follow the news very closely do you UV. Oblamebush has doubled in one year what GWB did in 8 years. Between bailing out Wall Street, and the car companies and escalating the war in Afghanistan and taking over the health industry with untold TRILLIONS in costs yet to appear. Oh did I mention the non-stimulating stimulus which is shorthand for political pork? Is that rumblings about bailing out deadbeat home owners I hear???? GWB, whom I never supported, was a piker compared to Comrade Oblamebush.
