David Cameron has accused Nick Clegg of trying to “hold the country to ransom” over the Liberal Democrat leader’s demands for a power-sharing deal.
The Conservative leader’s criticism of Mr Clegg was echoed by Gordon Brown who accused the Lib Dem leader of being “arrogant” and taking the electorate for granted.
Polls suggest that the election will deliver a hung parliament, with the Lib Dems holding the balance of power
Mr Clegg, who has seen his party’s support jump in recent days, yesterday described electoral reform as “an absolute pre-condition for renewal in this country.”
On Sunday, Mr Clegg hinted that he could demand to be made prime minister as the price for supporting Labour if it loses the election.
Senior figures in both the main parties believe the Mr Clegg has now begun to over-reach himself in a way that could start to alienate voters.
Speaking in Lib Dem-held Romsey, Hampshire, Mr Cameron accused Mr Clegg of arrogance.
“He’s only interested in one thing – changing our electoral system so we have a permanent hung parliament,” Mr Clegg said. “He wants to hold the whole country to ransom just to get what benefits the Liberal Democrats.”

Notes:
It has not escaped me that the media is not paying attention to Gordon Brown’s seat in the constituency of Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath. I took a quick peek to see who was running against him and there are several but the one that stands out is this gal.
Seems to me that the Telegraph and the Daily Mail need to get on this situation. Perhaps a visit from Cameron and Boris Johnson would not go amiss either. There’s all kinds of mischief to be made there with a bit of thought.
As a final thought…Lindsay has a “piss poor” site as she attacks Brown. Conservatives can do better and they should. The money would be well spent as they go after “Gordo” on his home turf and I have no idea why they fail to see the obvious. Cameron should be all over him where it matters most.
Egads what a flippin mess!
I don’t know when the world last paid close attention to a British election. Probably not since the Thatcher years. Having said that I will say this. TV broke this situation wide open and it’s a barn burner as it comes down to the wire.
Every political junky everywhere is becoming tightly focused and small wonder.
Thanks to the net there are no doubt many suggestions from ex-pats regarding what to do next. My personal view is that the conservatives should make an all out effort to go after Gordon Brown’s seat. If they win that will end his PM aspirations and I see nothing wrong with his conservative opponent. She would be a huge improvement on the “Model T” they have now.
