Ayaan Hirsi Ali comes before the West as a messenger bearing terrifying news: We are in a struggle with Islam that threatens our civilization and our most crucial principles.
She resembles the refugee dissidents who arrived here carrying a similar message from the Soviet empire long ago, except that she’s escaped from an oppressive state of mind rather than a barbed-wire nation state. Born into fundamentalist Islam, she rebelled against its tyranny and eventually set out to tell the West what we face. Her new book, Nomad, helps to spread the alarm to sleepy, prosperous countries, such as Canada.
Even now, after many Islamist atrocities, Canadians prefer to ignore what she has to say. After all, she threatens our religion of multiculturalism and casts grave doubt on our immigration policy. She undermines our anxious hope that Islam is mainly harmless.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali along with Wafa Sultan are Muslim feminists who are having a significant impact because women are key to the needed reformation of Islam.
Ayaan Hirsi Ali is now half of a power couple with Niall Ferguson a Scot who specializes in financial and economic history at Harvard. His recent book is a very good read; The Ascent of Money: A Financial History of the World; surprisingly PBS gave this capitalist a series on the book. These 2 will give the Kumbayah-progressives fits..
We ignore this woman and her message at our peril.I have read her first book and was horrified at the brutality that is put upon women.Have we fought so hard for liberation to go passively into Sharia? Those in Canada who are embracing Islam had better start thinking of what they are going to visit upon their granddaughters and this country as a whole. God have mercy on us.
A wee bit off topic. Just finished watching ‘For Neda’ on HBO. If the UN was ever to prove itself worthy of anything, it should have initiated an international arrest warrant for Mahmound Ahmadinejad. The evidence of him orchestrating crimes against humanity (his own people) is overwhelming. If nothing else it would force him to be a prisoner in his own country until the Iranian people find a way to lynch him from a lightpost. Someday they will find that way.
