In a peculiar instance of synchronicity, President Obama’s Oval Office speech to the nation last night resembled the very calamity it was intended to address: Like the oil spewing into the Gulf, it began as a focused and narrow stream of words — and quickly spread out into an amorphous cloud of goo.
What started as a just-the-facts-ma’am explanation quickly got caught up in political currents — by the end we were treated to bromides about the Greatest Generation and putting a man on the moon and preposterous insinuations that the Red Chinese will turn Green before us. (China, mind you, is the country where the rivers burn, the air is crunchy and the government is building a new, filthy, coal-fired power plant every 10 days for the next decade).
Last night we saw just the latest installment of “Never Let a Crisis Go to Waste,” written by Rahm Emanuel and performed by The One. The immediate goal: to create the political climate where BP will bend over and say “thank you sir, may I have another” in perpetuity. Beyond that, to browbeat the public and Congress into accepting some version of cap-and-trade legislation that will export jobs and raise energy prices in the middle of a recession.
If we could defeat Hitler, we can hike your utility bills! If we could put a man on the moon, we can put an American manufacturing job in India! Yes, we can!

An average high school student could have written a more inspiring speech. Whatever Americans were hoping to hear, they didn’t. Politics as usual. Community organizers can give speeches until the cows come home and their are no conseqences in what they say. Obama does not have the intellectual, political or basic life skills to climb out of that mindset. Buyers remorse has got to be spreading like wildfire in America.
Having nothing better to do than waste time I really really tried to listen to Oblamebush. His hectoring vapidity is like nails down a chalk board for me but I did listen to as much as I could stand. I believe that speech should about end his political career. Being honest I got the feeling that the puppet (Oblamebush) is being sacrificed by his puppet masters for the greater aims of the puppet masters.
In the midst of doing nothing about the oil spill Oblamebush is going to raise taxes to create ‘green energy’. Is there any adult left alive who honestly believes there is such a thing as ‘green energy’?
I wonder if Captain Kirk would mind if Oblamebush stole his Warp Drive?
How the mighty have fallen. In the heady days of the US election, this type of speech – given authority by Obama’s sonorous voice – would have been hailed as visionary.
A truly skilled politician can speak for hours and say nothing – but not let you realize it; now that the shine is gone, Obama’s political acting skills aren’t strong enough to disguise the fact all he shoveling was drivel.
Re # 3 QUOTE ” How the mighty have fallen. In the heady days of the US election, this type of speech – given authority by Obama’s sonorous voice – would have been hailed as visionary. ”
Exactly right, great speaking voice and vague lofty speeches giving the illusion of ” change “: Everyone could fill in the blanks and imagine that the change(s) meant something they each believed or wanted before the election !
Now that actual decisions have to be made the great speeches just sound hollow.
Long way of saying that the suspicions of the few of Obama being an empty suit are being confirmed in the minds of more and more people: The ship of state is heading for the rocks and confidence in the captain of the ship is now very low. The crew and passengers are getting really nervous and looking more and more longingly at the life boats or a way to mutiny and find a better captain sooner than later !
Impeachment ( maybe just in talk only ) or at the very least an extra-lame duck presidency after the November elections.
This quote from the L.A. Times says it all. When this publication starts ridiculing “The One” then we know the problem is serious.
“there’s a pipe gushing a gazillion gobs of oil into the gulf, so let’s build more windmills——-”
Sadly, changing american governments may not change anything when it comes to offshore oilrings and oil pollution. In all probability, there will be more oil drilling disasters.
The good news is that “cap and trade” was missing in the speech. To the extent that the most likely strategy of Harper/Prentice has been to stall until we see what the Obama regime does, his omission last night would now indicate we can continue with the strategy to not harm our economy over CO2 issues that are unproven. Instead we can concentrate on real environmental issues and continue to clean up the air and our lakes. Conservatives have lots of accomplishments in this regard that will make good campaign platforms in the next election.
Last but not least, the oil sands are looking pretty attractive, relatively speaking, even to an American progressive.
Obama is a Post Turtle President.

Speaking of turtles, VDH expalins today why the progressives are turning on Him, Palm Sunday is over, the “tingles” have stopped.
“In a weird way, the green issue is a gift from the gods for the liberal media: it allows them “on principle” (cf. Maureen Dowd) to distance themselves from Obama (as in “we don’t compromise with the environment” when, in fact, they compromise on everything from Predator assassinations, windmills off Martha’s Vineyard, solar panels in tortoise country, Guantanamo, etc. as long as there is power to be had or amplified).”
