LONDON – International action on climate change looks set to drift for the next two years as politicians waver in the wake of the financial crisis, despite a new report which says the last three decades were the warmest on record.
Recession in industrialized countries has focused attention on the cost of cutting carbon emissions. And green motivations suffered a huge blow with the failure of UN negotiations to deliver a deal in Copenhagen in December.
Talks resume next week in Bonn, Germany, but a new draft text is as vague as ever on targets or a timetable to cut emissions.
“I suspect that we’re in for a fairly long period of slowdown, you’re talking about a two to three years’ timeframe before you restore the political momentum,” said Tom Burke of Imperial College London.

The hottest decade on record is a meaningless statistic. The Earth’s climate is millions, if not billions, of years old. To imply that somehow it’s only the last hundred years or so of climate measurement that’s important is pure junk science.
What’s clear from this article, though, is that the eco-extortionists aren’t going to give up. And no wonder considering that they are soaking us for hundreds of billions in subsidies every year.
They are all parasites, enabled by complicit governments. Climate change is more than just a scam, it’s criminal extortion.
Bring it on I say cause I would sooner have 30 above then 30 below.
Climate change will bounce around like environmental issues have done for years. Here’s one for those who like to keep saying “they’re all the same”. Of course the difference is in how the MSM treats the progressives vs. conservatives; Obama’s proposed rules are winning praise from some of the same editorial pages that stridently denounced Bush’s similar proposals.
From Reuters:
President Barack Obama is being praised for proposing new air quality regulations to reduce smog and acid rain. Obama’s proposal is a good idea — and strikingly similar to air quality regulations that were proposed in 2002 by George W. Bush, then fought with white fury by Democrats and environmentalists.
The reforms Obama suggests today could have begun eight years ago, were it not for intense opposition from the very people now backing the idea. And therein lies a tale of Washington dysfunction.
Having said that , Obama’s attempt to link into one package environmental issues and cap and tax seem to be falling apart. So this decoupling will make it easier for Canada to align its polices with the US and avoid a battle with Obama’s union base on free trade over greenhouse gas emissions. The Conservative Accomplishments on cleaning up the environment can be campaigned on and the facts will pleasantly surprise a lot of voters.
