A mere two days after May’s deadly flotilla raid off the coast of Gaza, the Geneva-based UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC), in a special “emergency session,” passed a resolution by a 32 to 3 count that “condemn[ed] in the strongest terms the outrageous attack by the Israeli forces against the humanitarian flotilla of ships.” Despite already forming its consensus view of the flotilla raid, it nonetheless ordered a “fact-finding Mission,” which went ahead despite the support of Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon for a wider and more legally consequential UN inquiry, which Israel later agreed to cooperate with.
In addition to agreeing to work with the general UN inquiry, Israel has conducted an internal military review which acquitted the IDF commandos of any professional misconduct, faulting them only for not anticipating the violence they were met with onboard the Mavi Marmara. Furthermore, Israel is also now engaged in a domestic civil review headed by retired Israeli Supreme Court Justice Jacob Turkel and observed by Northern Irish First Minister Lord David Trimble and former Canadian military judge Ken Watkin.
The results of the UNHRC flotilla investigation were published last week in an “Advance Unedited Version” of its official report and the verdict is as predictable as it is one-sided. As with the Goldstone Report, Israel is once again accused of war crimes. And once again, the UNHRC’s Mission sacrifices methodological rigor and dispassion for a politicized and prefabricated ruling.

When it comes to it the UN is the cruel master and the west is the whimpering dog. The UN beats the dog over and over yet each time when there is a lull in the beatings the western dog comes crawling back to lick its tormentor’s hand. What are we doing tolerating the bunch of anti-western yahoos let alone permitting its HQ to be based on North American soil? What are we doing contributing a single penny to the operation of this freak show. The U.S. funds approximately 1/4th of the entire UN regular budget. Canada contributes more than Russia and China who are little more than perpetual thorns in the west’s sides. What’s up with that? There can be little argument that the UN is and will remain the most impotent and corrupt body politic that has ever been invented by mankind. It is long overdue for the west to bid them adieu.
U.S. Contributions to UN Regular Budget
The United States has the maximum assessed contribution to the UN regular budget — 22%. In 2009 the assessed amount is $598,292,101. The minimum assessed contribution is 0.001%. The scale of assessments for each UN member for the required contributions to the regular budget is determined every 3 years on the basis of Gross National Product (GNP).
Only nine countries (starting with the largest contributor: United States, Japan, Germany, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Canada, Spain, China) contribute 75% of the entire regular budget. Cuba contributes .043% of the regular budget. Oil-rich Saudi Arabia contributes .713%.
In addition to their contributions to the UN regular budget, member states contribute to the peacekeeping operations budget and the cost of international courts and tribunals. The level of these contributions is based on their assessed contributions to the regular budget plus variations which take account of permanent membership on the Security Council.
UN members also make voluntary contributions to UN specialized agencies and subsidiary organizations. The administrative costs of such bodies, though, are met from the regular budget.
The US won’t pull out of the UN with Barry Obama at the helm, but when he’s turfed in 2012 all western nations should bail and form an alliance based on mutually held moral principles and economic self-interest. The totalitarian miscreants who mean to do us harm are welcome to form their own cabal which they can pay the shot for and base in some God forsaken hell hole far from North American shores.
Should Canada secure a UN security council seat (hope we do) I think under the given strategy playing strengths of our Prime Minister, we can fortunately look at a game of ‘hard ball’ that gets results. Because he’ll being laying out the facts in defense of Israel. As opposed to Obama.
