WikiLeaks cables portray Saudi Arabia as a cashpoint for terrorists

Saudi Arabia is the world's largest source of funds for Islamist militant groups such as the Afghan Taliban and Lashkar-e-Taiba – but the Saudi government is reluctant to stem the flow of money, according to Hillary Clinton.

"More needs to be done since Saudi Arabia remains a critical financial support base for al-Qaida, the Taliban, LeT and other terrorist groups," says a secret December 2009 paper signed by the US secretary of state. Her memo urged US diplomats to redouble their efforts to stop Gulf money reaching extremists in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

"Donors in Saudi Arabia constitute the most significant source of funding to Sunni terrorist groups worldwide," she said.

Three other Arab countries are listed as sources of militant money: Qatar, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.

The cables highlight an often ignored factor in the Pakistani and Afghan conflicts: that the violence is partly bankrolled by rich, conservative donors across the Arabian Sea whose governments do little to stop them.

Energy self-sufficiency needs to become a genuine priority instead of a politically correct talking point.   That would enable us to wash our hands of the cesspool that the middle east has condemned itself to probably forever thanks to its medieval political ideology mascarading as a religion self-destructive deathwish.   The west will never achieve energy self-sufficiency as long as enriching the shareholders at GE takes a higher priority and the wind mill/solar recharable battery worhsipping loons still carry the biggest stick.

The Bush family and the Saudi Royal family were and are tight.
When 9/11 struck, the Bin Laden family was flown out of the USA even as air space was restricted.
15/19 hijackers in 9/11 were from Saudi Arabia, yet the warmongers previously in office never even discussed invading that nation.
You can't blame any of this on Obama. Partisan jabs aren't going to cut it.  Neither is John Tory (who seems wholly unrelated).  Neither will you until you come up with a plan besides "anything we can do to piss off the left"

First of all, it is indeed all about oil.
Thus every Western regime including the Bushes and others do what they can to keep oil flowing and thus keep it cheap. Pelosi is a hypocrite for damning Alberta as unethical while not doing so with the Saudis which this post highlights as a major jihadist problem. That’s the partisan difference between the Bushes and the Obamarx gang, Bush did not damn Alberta.
The State Department flying bin Laden’s parent’s out is red herring; they had nothing to do with the depraved behaviour of their son.
      The “plan” would be:
      – to source fossil fuels as much as possible from regions that don’t use our money to blow us up…ergo hypocritical Quebec should stop heaving like Pelosi and back Alberta versus a Venezuelan despot
-name the enemy as Islamofascism, we can’t beat an un-named enemy
      – do what we can to make sure that homegrowns don’t happen here in Canada, ergo the comment about John Tory and Mosque basement schools funded by Saudis here in Toronto.
But you are right, that plan would PO the left because the progressives will partner with any movement that furthers their 2 class tribal ideology of rulers and peasants. That’s what keeps the progressives and Islamofascists on the same page because they have a common enemy in an assertive Tea Party middle class.

    Well said Nomdeblog!

Gosh when you read that long list of state and non-state actors, it sure is comforting to know we’ve pin pointed the enemy so we can win the war.
Maybe Hilary ought to have cc’d her memo to the Obamarx gang. Especially to Nancy Pelosi who wants to shut down our oil sands because Canadians are so unethical. But Pelosi is hypocritical. She’s fine with keeping American money flowing to the despots, the Saudis and Hugo Chavez. See Ezra Levant’s Ethical Oil for further details.
Also maybe sending a copy of Hillary’s memo to Jean Charest would be a good idea too since Québec gets most of its fuel from Venezuela while Radio Canada (that great Canadian unifier of separatists mooching at the taxpayer subsidized trough) condemns Western Canada for its oil sands.
Let’s hope Sun TV becomes a perpetual Wikileaks of truth to both the Quebecois and the ROC so that we can marginalize the progressives who have dominated our airwaves for the last half century. Who knows maybe Sun TV could have even helped that infamous red tory John Tory try to get young boys out the basements of Mosques funded by Saudis and into our “normal” school system. The cost would have been $500 million a year. However, our apparatchiks would need a Royal Commission to weigh that cost against a potentially successful Toronto 18 blowing up downtown Toronto. Oh well, we caught them all, there can’t be any others.
