Re: #9 — This entry was included because it was interesting. Trained divers will find it more so.

Point: I’m not always “yapping” about politics. Sometimes I become distracted and today was one of those days. Watch the video and take a look at the “pics”.

    There is much to learn.

Re: #2 — It’s the Globe, John. You must read through this stuff. Same with #5.

Not much to get excited about when you consider these publications continue to lie on a daily basis to Canadians. I just post this stuff for entertainment value and to draw a few outraged comments.

Why anyone would buy these rags is far beyond me but they continue to do so. Perhaps that will change in the years ahead.

Re: McParland: Ontario sets the stage for Tory trifecta 41% of voters say they’ll vote conservative ‘eh? That’s somewhat lower than McSquinty got in 2007 for his 66% majority but the way things work in Canada Hudak will (if it comes to pass) still trumpet phrases like the “will of the people” and “strong mandate” with his greatest minority of the vote.

It’s no wonder that public faith in the process is at an all time low, I wonder if Ontario will set another record low for participation.

Re: “41% of voters say they’ll vote conservative ‘eh? ”

Quite unlike “basket case” countries like Italy, Germany, Israel and many others we use a “first past the post” poltical system and our verdict is clear when we finally decide. No “pissing around”.

It may not be fair to all but it works and in a worst case situation with a majority government we can make up our minds in a hurry. Therefore the reason why “McSquinty” is going to leave very quickly this fall. He’s “done like dinner” because he, like Bob Rae before him, is “Mister Taxation”.

It sounds good to me and I wouldn’t change it for another model.

      “41%” is just fine.

May not be fair? Simply put, it’s not fairJack…. unless you believe that the greatest minority somehow has a legitimate right to make decisions for the majority.

Clear verdict? Only in the sense that it lays out where voters stand with respect to supporting the various parties and their platforms (or possibly how much they detest their political opponents). In the case of the last Ont. election it made it clear that the majority of voters in Ontario were not impressed with McSquinty – that didn’t stop him from muttering about “mandates from the people” though.

It is NOT total votes or percentage votes – it is SEATS in the House of Commons and that is a MAJORITY. Winner takes all and they get to “dictate” (if you like!!) to the minority SEATS.

Sorry Stage but I’m tired of the “bs majority talk” that comes from those who don’t like the results.

Stage “It’s no wonder that public faith in the process is at an all time low, I wonder if Ontario will set another record low for participation.”

That’s odd, my faith is at an all time high. But that’s probably because I’ve been losing to the Trudeaupias for the last few decades… until lately. Understandably, losing is a new feeling for progressives. However, being tired of losing, conservatives have been in a much more compromising mood of late.

But since the 60% that you refer to already know that they will lose unless they compromise with each other and gel on enough workable polices to overtake the 40%; then we can only conclude that deep down they want to lose. They don’t “participate” because that would involve real action instead of moaning about “process”.

Progressives are not good at real action, instead they prefer to search for the perfect process and perfect leader, both of which are utopian. So yes, they’ll probably stay home this Fall in the Ontario election.
