Radosh: Walter Russell Mead Takes On Al Gore, and Scores a Devastating Knockout! (1)

Can anyone doubt that Walter Russell Mead is now our country’s most authoritative and brilliant essayist? In a series of three lengthy columns — two of which are now out — Mead takes on and destroys any pretentions to credibility that Al Gore may still have had. They appear on Mead’s blog at The American Interest. You can read part I here, and part deux, as he calls it, here.

Let me whet your appetite by reproducing the best paragraph from his first entry. In part one, Mead takes up the issue of Gore’s well noted hypocrisy. He writes:

But you cannot be a leading environmentalist who hopes to lead the general public into a long and difficult struggle for sacrifice and fundamental change if your own conduct is so flagrantly inconsistent with the green gospel you profess. If the heart of your message is that the peril of climate change is so imminent and so overwhelming that the entire political and social system of the world must change, now, you cannot fly on private jets. You cannot own multiple mansions. You cannot even become enormously rich investing in companies that will profit if the policies you advocate are put into place.

Later he adds:

One Response to Radosh: Walter Russell Mead Takes On Al Gore, and Scores a Devastating Knockout! (1)

WRM is to the Democrats (the sane ones) what VDH is to conservatives; both brilliant essayists. WRM voted for Obama. He hasn’t quite figured out what is wrong with Obama nor concluded he made a voting mistake yet but he is starting to express grave doubts. That’s because WRM is a real American who has faith in individualism versus the collective.

Actually, Gore is a crony capitalist. He does all the bad things that Marx worried about capitalism doing which is creating crony capitalism with government and become outlandishly wealthy in the process off the backs of the middle class. Gore along with Maurice Strong and George Soros manipulate government regulation to suit their own agenda and get rich. They hate tax cuts because that empowers the individual. They create emotional scaremongering like Global Warming and sell it through their toady pals in the MSM and academia (the latter unionized, progressive, demagogues have brainwashed a whole generation or 2 on Global Warming lies, which will take us several more years to unwind.)

These progressive extremists have hijacked liberal parties the world over and when they gain power, or even get close to gaining power, they threaten big business with excessive tax and regulation unless they get in the line with these progressive manipulators. That’s why we saw Goldman Sachs backing Obama with funding; they knew they would get reprimanded if the Obamarx gang gained power but GS hoped it would be less painful if they paid the bribes. In fact GS calculated that they might even benefit from new carbon trading schemes by being favoured by Obama at the same time Obama publically berated Wall St. That’s how the perversity of crony capitalism works.

We’ll continue to see the progressives attack successful entrepreneurs, the job creators, with tax threats. Global Warming is just another redistribution of wealth scheme used by elitist progressives like Gore to weaken individual effort and gain control of the purse strings to manipulate us peasants to do their bidding. We need to explain to our kids how this works and try to counter surge Academia and the MSM. However, with WRM as a Democratic academic who is now becoming a quasi neo-con (a liberal mugged by reality) on these subjects; we are finally getting some good verbal ammunition to fight Global Warming terrorism.
