Patterson: Can America Turn It Around?

Pessimism is permeating our national atmosphere. Newsweek may as well publish an article titled “We Are All Declinists Now,” for if there is one thing the left and the right, from Occupy Wall Street to the Tea Party, seem to agree on, it is that things are not going well in this country and appear to be getting worse.

This crisis of confidence is not unique to America, of course — across what was once quaintly referred to as “Western Civilization,” economies of entire nations are either suffering in stagnation or teetering near total collapse. Falling or stagnating living standards and birthrates portend a considerably older and poorer West in the not-so-distant future.

The reasons for this unfortunate state of affairs are many and varied, and not yet fully understood. But let us put aside the question of causation for a moment and ask instead: Can we in the West — and in the United States in particular — turn this boat around? Must we accept decline as inevitable?

Obama’s sneak attack on America reminds me of these famous words allegedly spoken by Japanese Admiral Yamamoto immediately after receiving reports of the successful sneak Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour.

“I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve.”

This November may prove once again that history repeats itself.

Let’s compare the situation 2012 America is in to the situation the passengers on 2001 United Airlines Flight 93 found themselves to be in. The goal of the anti-democratic pilots (Obama and his administration) is to destroy the America they despise and remake it in their own image. Fact – the overwheming % of Americans are conservative. That majority need to recognize that they can either sit idly by and accept their fate as decided by the minority (pilots) or they can at least try and do something about it as the majority passengers did. They too have to ignor the persuasive (media) voices ‘on the intercom’, telling eveyone to remain calm, to place their trust in the pilots and all will be well. The passengers on Flt. 93 weren’t fooled, neither should patriotic Americans. The majority can deny pilot Obama his goal just as surely as those passengers did 10 years ago. Those passengers were made up of both conservatives and liberals. The once appealing face of liberalism has become grotesque. A good rallying cry for the GOP in 2012, “Let’s roll”.

Can America turn it around? Yes….but only if they dump Obama. If not, they are toast.
