Gurney: Tories bring another proud moment in military procurement history: A screwed up jet replacement program, ice capable high arctic patrol vessels dropped, a high arctic naval facility turned into a glorified fuel cache on the beach.

All promises made – all promises unfulfilled.

At what point, I wonder, are good CPC foot soldiers supporters going to drop the “we support the troops” talking point handed to them by their party and leader and start comparing the Harper Government with the Liberals and their words and actions?

    O.K., let’s compare…….in random order:

Thanks to Liberals…….”The unarmoured Iltis jeep carrying two Canadian soldiers killed in an explosion in Kabul was deemed inadequate for patrolling outside military bases in Afghanistan by a top U.S. commander more than a year ago.”

Thanks to Liberals…….The Unification that Tore the CF Apart:
“The weapon of destruction Paul Hellyer used was called Unification. Paul did have other moments, but I will deal only with Unification; as he did have the courage to resign when his party (Liberals) would not accept and pass a Housing Bill he authored. But Unification blundered on, through many subsequent Defense Ministers, until we ended up with the military shambles we have today. The destructive treatment of the CF (Canadian Forces) has been cumulative and there are many shoulders to spread it on. The Prime Ministers the Rt. Hon. P.E. Trudeau and the Rt. Hon Jean Chretien are ultimately to blame.”

Thanks to Liberals……”The effects of the political destruction of the Canadian Forces become obvious when a Navy ship, that needs an out of date and barely serviceable Sea king Helicopter for it’s eyes and ears, goes to sea for one day and returns the next, after it’s eyes and ears fail and then re-deploys without eyes or ears, but takes another ship a long, perhaps to tow the lot home! ”

Thanks to Liberals…….”Mr. Chrétien cancelled the maritime helicopter program in 1993 out of concern the country couldn’t afford it at a time of a large deficit. The Liberal government paid a $500-million penalty for the cancellation and the project was restarted years later.” (and our troops are still waiting for a replacement helicopter some 20 yrs later!)

Okay, getting tired……back to you, sl.

Yes, yes, yes…. we agree that the Liberals were not the CAF’s best friend by a long shot – how does that address any of the things I brought up beentheredonethat? How does it address veteran benefits clawbacks the Harper Government is engaging in?

Answer, it doesn’t, all it does is complain about the other guy in defence of your guy.

I think you’re blaming the wrong crowd, “sl”. Perhaps you should take a harder look at Harper’s “backup” — a civilian fifth column really “pissed off” who hate him and all he stands for. I’m watching but when I look at the f-35 debacle or military trucks I can’t help thinking that he needs to fire them all.

In most new government’s which take power that usually happens. I find it somewhat disconcerting that Harper is still labouring along in “La La Land” trying to appease the left. I wouldn’t for one minute tolerate that agenda. I would make a point of finding out who killed that truck contract in the last sixty seconds and it would be “poof, you’re gone”.

I would also want to know who was holding up the f-35 contract.

        The simple truth is this.

“Trudeaupian” civil servants have held this country hostage for many years because we can’t fire them and every time a conservative government is elected they must fight through this conservative “sucking” quicksand. I know that and YOU know that.

So start picking on the people who are causing the trouble. That would NOT be conservatives. Rather, it would be those who believe Trudeau still lives.

Am I accusing the Canadian public service appointed by Trudeau and Chretien of screwing Harper?

        “You betcha!”

        Goodnight, everyone.

This far into Harpers term of office I think that blaming Trudeau & Chretien is more than just a little bit of a stretch Jack.

The old ‘everybody hates us‘ line is also getting weak – how many years is it going to take before you decide Harper has been around long enough to shoulder responsibility for his decisions and how he has chosen to conduct himself?

Without claiming defense of anyone SL I am just curious why you blame Harper for Chretien’s ordering the F35s. Its not like Harper had a much of a choice. There is only one potential aircraft and Chretien had already committed Canada into buying it. Harper had two choices. He either went ahead with the purchase to all the moaning and complaining of the oppos or he backed out of the consortium to all the moaning and complaining of the oppos. We saw how well backing out of the EH 101′s worked out for Canada didn’t we. BTW where are those Sikorskys Chretien ordered? Wouldn’t be an acquisition SNAFU would there be?

Re:#1. ac·ci·dent/ˈaksidənt: An unfortunate incident that happens unexpectedly and unintentionally, typically resulting in damage or injury.

When it comes to the Calgary Stampede and the Chuckwagon races, these drivers take exceedingly good care of their horses. They care deeply for their well being (witness the interviews with their owners/drivers). There are so many legitimate animal cruelty cases that need attention. The Stampede and these particular races are not one of them. So VHS please go and make yourselves useful where animals are genuinely abused and live out their lives in pain and otherwise distress. Your presence in Calagary is not accomplishing that goal.
