Jason Kenney announces 3,100 people being stripped of citizenship for fraud (1)

A widening federal crackdown has identified a record number of people suspected of acquiring their Canadian citizenship and immigration status through fraud.

The number of newcomers under investigation for misrepresenting themselves in their dealings with Citizenship and Immigration Canada has ballooned to an historic 11,000 as a result of nation-wide enforcement.

The figure is almost double the 6,500 identified by federal officials less than a year ago, suggesting that Canada’s citizenship and immigration fraud problems may be more widespread than previously thought.

Often facilitated by immigration consultants, this type of fraud has allowed foreigners to sponsor relatives and qualify for Canadian passports, benefits and the right to vote — all without ever having lived in Canada for any significant period.

Kudos to PMSH and Jason Kenney for finally doing something about this horrible abuse of Canada’s benevolence. This would never occur under either the Libs or NDP (should they ever..shudder…form the government). The criminality flourishing within our immigration and yes refugee systems is nothing new. I can tell you that RCMP criminal immigration officers identified this and other just as damaging abuses over 2 decades ago. Sadly for Canada few in positions to be able to do something about it wanted to listen let alone do anything about it even if they agreed. The immense pressure within the enforcement community and federal government to faithfully worship at the alter of political correctness stymied much effective counter action. Canada or your career? It makes me sick to think of all of those who chose the latter. Ah yes last night on the news the usual suspects in full cry denouncing the meanie pants Conservatives. Oh and let’s not neglect the favourite weapon of the left, the ‘R’ word. The Liberal and NDP immigration critics crying foul with accusations of discrimination and giving all immigrants a bad name. Political correctness is thy name. Canada should not be for sale. Obviously it no longer is. There is nothing not to like about that fact.

“Surely making citizenship mean something again is not racist.”

As sure as the sun rises in the east….oh yes it does. The label has already been attached to this totally appropriate and long long overdue crackdown. Not to dissappoint the CBC is leading the ‘charge of the left brigade’. A concept far beyond the ability of these fools to ever understand is this simple undeniable reality…” It’s as important to preserving the value of citizenship for the hundreds of thousands of legal immigrants we welcome each year as it for the tens of millions of us born here.”
