Hanson: America’s Wilderness Years (6)

His tenure will be known as the Wilderness Years — nothing gained, much lost.

Most two-term presidents leave some sort of legacy. Ronald Reagan won the Cold War. George W. Bush prevented another 9/11, and constructed an anti-terrorism protocol that even his critical successor embraced and often expanded.

Even our one-term presidents have achieved something. JFK got Soviet missiles out of Cuba. LBJ oversaw passage of civil rights legislation. Jerry Ford restored integrity to the White House. Jimmy Carter finally issued the Carter Doctrine to stop Soviet expansionism at the Persian Gulf. George H.W. Bush won the first Persian Gulf War and got Saddam Hussein out of Kuwait.

And even our impeached or abdicated presidents at least left some positive legacies. Richard Nixon went to China and enacted détente. Bill Clinton through compromise balanced the budget and incurred budget surpluses.

But Barack Obama?

The economy is anemic. We have never seen unemployment dip below 7% in the last five years. Real jobless rates that include those who have given up on working are perhaps double the official figures. By 2017 the national debt will have doubled. The stimulus did not lead to a “summer of recovery.”

Near zero interest rates, vast expansions in the money supply, and huge increases in federal redistributive payouts have not jump-started anything — except to end entirely the cherished American idea of receiving a modest interest rate on lifelong passbook savings accounts. The middle class has been squeezed as never before, lacking the administration’s romance of the poor and its crony-capitalism connections of the rich.

90% of Hanson’s factors are outside presidential control – a fact we often remember or forget depending on how much we like the president. Obama’s Taj Mahal was supposed to be the healthcare plan, but the mean streak of Machiavellianism (among other things) going through Americans these days will prevent it from ever becoming a viable institution.

Speaking of Bill Clinton…….just what does a Democrat have to do to shame them into obscurity? I suppose voters actually holding them accountable would be a motivating factor.

Wait for it. Fear monger! Conspiracy theorist! TEA Party racist! Really? The useful idiots who comprise a majority of the clueless left and being used as unwitting pawns by evil need to stop and let common sense catchup. The Obama administration has recently begun fulfilling the requirements of another absolute requirement of success – Rule #17 Control of the Schools. It’s deceptively and so innocently called Common Core. Nothing to see here folks, move along? Do so America, at your own peril.

“Common Core is a unconstitutional federal program. Implementation is illegal. By implementing this program, it is ignoring the U.S. Constitution, the Wisconsin Constitution, and other state statutes governing local control of schools.”

Identity of author of the following is in dispute. Some say Lenin others Stalin but nevertheless the message is clear.

“America is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these there areas, America will collapse from within.”

Obama’s legacy will be “a cheerleader for the demise of patriotism, morality, and spirituality…..”

      “Wait — it gets better!”

Watch this very short video clip compliments of Greta at Fox News. “Truly”, You can’t make this stuff up.

If it wasn’t so serious it would be ‘Hillaryarious’ (more on that tomorrow). I also note in my tweets today a column in the UK Telegraph. Make certain to read it and also recall that the “Ex-liar in Chief x 2” were placed in charge of the Haiti relief effort. So much for that idea. I also note the UN is now howling for more money to aid the people devastated by the typhoon which recently struck the Philippines.

In my view “bad idea” unless of course the US Marines control who get’s what. In that case I would support the project — not otherwise.

Off Topic: Years ago I wrote a column on Hwy 407 (Toronto Bypass) and today, when I clicked the link to the rest of it I discovered it had been changed to an advertisement. How that happened I don’t know but rather than try to recover it I simply deleted the entry.

“Short story”: I never have and never will try to “fix” a minor computer problem which is no longer relevant. I move on and that particular entry is “toast” along with the “ad” it linked to.
